Schutzhaus Meidling

Lovely place where you can not only sit inside the restaurant but also you can seat outside and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful plants while eating.
When visiting traditional Austrian restaurant I never have much expectations with finding vegan options, but to my surprise they had two! Both homemade and incredibly tasty! The service is also very caring.

This is a true hidden gem of authentic, home cooked Viennese food. It's tucked away in a business district so most tourists would never come across it but it's definitely worth the trip.

My experience here was so cute and lovely. We sat outside and the lady came to get our drink order. I asked for the homemade lemonade, which she said they were regretfully out of. Ah ha! That's a good sign, I thought, that means it's made fresh and so must everything else be. I asked if they had some other sort of non alcoholic drink and she offered to make me the house special, a combination of pumpkin, carrot and beer. Always one to try something new I said yes. A few minutes later she came by to apologize that the juicer was behaving badly and they wouldn't be able to make the drink. She offered me a soda with lemon squeezed in. As I was about to say yes, the chef came out and scolded her lightly for giving up so easily, they were fixing the machine and the juice would be out shortly. OK then! A short while later she came out with the soda and lemon, having given up on the juicer. Now you might think that this would have put me off the restaurant by now, in fact, quite the opposite. Her charming demeanor, the whole interaction between her, the chef and myself was so much like a Monty Python skit that I was absolutely loving it.

I ordered a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and when it arrived I dug in with gusto. It was very, very good. Simple, well cooked with a wonderful creamy mushroom sauce and home cut fries that were perfectly golden and crispy.

The whole experience was so pleasant, the food delicious, the ambiance and setting perfect for an afternoon lunch.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough, if you happen to be in the area, you absolutely must try them!

Excellent food and a really friendly cat that comes to say hello and leaves just as quickly :)

Been here many times over the last 10 years... schnitzel is always good, berner wurstel (pictured) is house-made and fantastic.

Tolle Location

Dieses Restaurant findet man vermutlich nicht auf Anhieb aber ein Besuch lohnt sich auf alle Fälle. Die Qualität der Speisen von klassischer österreichischer Küche ist ausgezeichnet und auch die Portionen sind großzügig. Das Personal ist stets freundlich und bemüht. Auch Preis/Leistung passen. Zu Mittag gibt es sehr gute Menüs.

Der große Gastgarten ist im Sommer wirklich angenehm. Innen ist auch ausreichend Platz. Parken in nahegelegener Tiefgarage möglich.

Sehr nettes Gasthaus mit Österreichischer Hausmannskost. Unter der Woche mittags oft von den umliegenden Büros überlaufen (was für das Lokal spricht). Schattiger Gastgarten mit riesigen Bäumen. Personal braucht manchmal länger aber freundlich, Sonderwünschen oder Änderungen sind kein Problem. Das Essen selbst ist exzellent, große Portionen und fairer Preis. Leider ist das Parken ein Krampf da die umliegenden Straßen Privat (!!) sind.
