According to wall inscriptions on the east wall and manuscripts written by historians Ghevond, Hovhannes Draskhanakerttsi, and Stepanos Asoghik, the church and adjoining building for residence (the palace) were commissioned by Prince Grigor Mamikonian and his wife Heghine/Heline between 661-682 AD. Architecturally it is one of the most important Armenian churches of the Middle Ages and also one of the largest.

Huge and impressive! It was built in the seventh century by an Armenian prince Grigor Mamikonian.
The church resembles the Ani cathedral.
Though it has no dome, it is still beautiful. I remember there were many ravens on the roof... they were very annoying and depressive.

It's the 7th century Christian cathedral that was built during the rule of Armenian nobelman Grigor Mamikonyan .It was pagan temple before that. You can also see the inscription during the rule of Armenian king Smbat 1st (890-914 ),ruins of palace and another church. 7-րդ դարի քրիստոնեական տաճար է`կառուցված Հայոց իշխան Գրիգոր Ա Մամիկոնյանի օրոք:Քրիստոնեական տաճարի տեղում եղել է հեթանոսականը :Կան նաև Սմբատ Առաջինի օրոք (890-914 ) արված արձանագրություն,Մամիկոնյանների պալատական համալիրի և այլ եկեղեցու ավերակներ :

Արուճը վաղ միջնադարյան հայկական նշանավոր տաճարներից է, կառուցվել է 7-րդ դարում։ Եկեղեցին շատ մեծ չափեր ունի, գրեթե ամբողջովին կանգուն է, բացի գմբեթից, որ չի պահպանվել։ Տաճարը ներսից պատված է եղել որմնանկարներով, որոնք գրեթե ամբողջովին ոչնչացել են։ Եկեղեցու շրջակայքը հնավայր է։ Արուճի տաճարը մոտ է M1 Երևան-Գյումրի մայրուղուն և անպայման արժե այցելել։

About Armavir
Town in Armenia

Armavir, is a town and urban municipal community located in the west of Armenia serving as the administrative centre of Armavir Province. It was founded in 1931 by the government of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. As of the 2011 census, the population of the town is 29,319, down from 46,900 as reported in the 1989 census. Currently, the town has a population of 65,515 as per the 2023 official estimate. The town was known as Sardarabad before 1935, and Hoktemberyan from 1935 to 1995.
