Petrela Castle

Ancient castle . History . And the view is amazing. Also has a restorant at the top inside the castle.

The Petrela Castle is free to enter. Around 7 to 10 mins walk uphill. There is a nice restaurant with beautiful views. It is a medieval castle. It has a very interesting history. It dates back to 15th century and the tower was built in the 6th century A.D.

The castle was used mostly to watch for Ottoman troops marching towards inner Albania.

In addition, it has been held, used and conquered by Romans, Greeks, Turks and other.

It's only 15 km drive from City Center in Tirana.

The castle is absolutely beautiful, especially in the evening as you can watch the villages slowly light up around the mountains. Renato was out server and made a fire for us to warm up when we moved inside. The food was excellent, simple but delicious fare of roasted meats, salads, and potato wedges.

100m to go up is just nothing as the view is worthy! Plus!!! The food! SUPERB!!!! I had the best food so far here in Tirana! Fresh salad! Juicy Melon! The best Chicken tried so far!

The castle of Petrelë has a rich history, It is one of the tourist locations close to Tirana that attracts a great number of visitors. Petrela Castle used to be under the command of Mamica Kastrioti, Skanderbeg's sister. Today there is a restaurant inside the castle. The castle site has views of the Erzen valley, the hills, olive groves, and surrounding mountains.

Its an amazing historical & quite place to spend time with family and friends. it’s located on a rocky hill at the height of 400m above the sea level.

A nice mix of history, architecture, traditions and culture. I have been a number of times on that castle and always I have the desire to come back again.

It’s amazing castle not big but the view is awesome there is restaurant over there they didn’t speak English it’s ok

Castle Petrela is an interesting tourist attraction and very beautiful place to watch sunset, really! Incredible panoramic view over Tirana and green hills is smth you must see yourself and it can't be transmitted by any photo. The way to get up to the Castle from the parking is a bit difficult and requires comfortable shoes, but it takes just several minutes until the top.
There is an unusual restaurant with traditional Albanian food, so I would suggest to go there for dinner or at least to enjoy some desserts and drinks. Service is quite good, waiters are always very polite, food is delicious, always fresh and everything is quite clean and tidy.
I've been there actually many times over the years and each time visiting this place brings me only pleasant emotions, so I would like to share my experience with others. Please enjoy too! 😉

Very nice and well preserved castle! It's worthy of visiting! Going up might be a little tiring but the view is worth it! Inside the castle there is a very nice cafe/tavern which you can sit and enjoy a drink or food. The location is majestic and the view spectacular! Restaurant allows photo everywhere, nobody will bother you!

Absolutely stunning view form the castle. You can experience one of the most panoramic views on Tirana. The castle is well maintained and in the inside walls you can find a small restaurant with traditional and fresh food.

Petrela Castle is a historical place and it's made into a restaurant. Being on top of a hill makes it an adventure to climb it but it's part of the fun you are going to have once you reach at the top. From the top you can enjoy hot meals, drinks plus a great view of the whole City.
