The Free House Pub

A cozy neighborhood pub with really good food and soon-to-be-famous old fashioneds! Dom was pleasant, attentive, and professional and really made the experience great.

Just one note: I think a poppyseed dressing might work better on the Harvest Salad. It was wonderful, but the vinaigrette was a little too vinegary.

First trip to Madison. Must stop place. Amazing beer and drink choices.

We enjoyed our dinner. We had a big group but service was still good. Great beer selection. We started with cheese curds. Very good. We all had fish, some had grilled, some had fried, some had walleye, some had cod. All was delicious and hot and fresh. Parmesan garlic fries were awesome. Over all great experience.

Ordered the walleye fish fry platter and a spotted cow beer and food came out fast and it was amazing. I sat at the bar and the staff was very friendly and funny. They all worked well together and it made for a very enjoyable meal. Recommend 100%

Very cool local pub. They offer a good variety of interesting beers along with the traditional Miller's and other familiar brands. Enjoyed a flat burger with fries. It was cooked to perfection and every bite was flavorful. Will definitely visit again when I'm in town.

Great cozy place for lunch or dinner. It can get busy, especially for outdoor seating, so get here slightly early. Great indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. Two separate bars with two separate outdoor areas. The wait staff has always been appropriately attentive, with your drink not being empty for long. The food is very good, though their menu is on the smaller side. The pretzels were soft on the inside and a nice crunch on the outside. The cheese spread is so good, and though I don't like mustard, my mother said they were awesome. I had the strawberry walnut salad with bacon added, and would order it again for a light summer meal. My mother had the shrimp tacos (and I had to taste) and they were seasoned so good she said she would order them again in a heartbeat. The cocktails are very good, and their beer and whiskey selection is amazing. The only problem that can arise is parking, as it is only on the street. Would come back, and have came back.

We've been there twice and had great experiences both times. Great food. Good choice of beers. Nice outdoor seating area. Will definitely return.

Great spot for American food in a convenient location in downtown Middleton. This place looks like it’d be a tiny restaurant from the outside, but the inside opens up to reveal ample seating. The space is neat, with a cozy historic feel. Service has been quick and attentive on my visits there. Most recently, we had a young and nervous server…but he still did an excellent job. The menu offers a number of American options, but most have been well thought out. Good beer and drink options too. Prices are fair. I ordered the burger, which is prepared a la French onion soup. It came topped with onions and Gruyère cheese. It was delicious! The coleslaw was well seasoned as well.

This place is awesome. The entrance is fairly nondescript, but the inside is huge! Staff is friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere is spot on, very cozy and welcoming. The food is excellent and the beer selection is quite eclectic, but grounded. I highly recommend this establishment and will definitely be a return customer.

Located in downtown Middleton The Free House is a great place to stop and have a drink, grab a bite to eat, or both. Outdoor seating is available as well when the weather permits.

Might have the best Moscow Mule in the Madison area. Great selection of bottle and tap beer. From local brewers to imports to ciders you can easily find something to your liking. Liquor selection is great as well.

My husband and I have been visiting the Free House since they opened, it is our go to almost always in Middleton. They have a wonderful draft selection and drink list (though I miss the Wisconsin iced tea very much 😊) They also recently revamped their menu and it’s more fresh than ever. I love the crispy chicken sandwich, the seasoning is delicious and I enjoy some extra hot sauce on the side. This visit I got the greens for my side but you can’t go wrong with the fries. The salmon sandwich is also excellent, always cooked perfectly and it has so much flavor. That’s why I love it here, the fresh flavors, the ambiance and the staff.

Delicious Friday fish fry! I had the 2 piece cod sandwich without the bread and my friend had the walleye. We both loved it! This was like the 3rd or 4th time I visited and I have loved everything I've ordered there so far.

We absolutely love Free House in Middleton. Their friendly staff and creative and delicious menu make it a regular visit for our family. The best part is that they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer for their French fries, which means our daughter with Celiac Disease can enjoy French fries, a rare treat since most restaurants in the Madison area do not offer this perk. I just wish the management would notify the waitstaff about the gluten-free fryer since we’ve had two back to back servers unaware of this offering. Also, the beer list is wonderful but so chaotic - we wish the beers were listed by type to make it easier to read and select a beer. Get the smash burger! It’s perfection. Thank you, Free House, for being such a fantastic restaurant in Middleton. We appreciate you!

Fantastic food and atmosphere. I would definitely go back when in this area. The smash berger was made fresh. I wish I had a picture to post, but the food didn't last that long.

Came for Friday fish fry. Caution if you don’t like your food touching because everything on the plate touches. Loved the batter on the fried fish and the cole slaw was to die for!! Everything was super tasty and the waitress was so friendly. Great way to spend a fall day outdoors.

Excellent restaurant. Indoor and really nice, comfortable (shaded) outdoor seating. Great drinks!! Had one of their Moscow mules with pomegranate liqueur and it was amazing!! They also had one with raspberry liqueur that I’ll have to try next time. They have sweet potato fries which is always a bonus! I had a club sandwich that was delicious and my guest had a wrap that was also great!! Will be back to try other menu items and to try their excellent-sounding drinks.

Great place to meet friends for drinks or a meal in downtown Middleton, especially after visiting the Mustard Museum! The three of us sat on the patio and enjoyed several local beers and the walleye sandwich. Yum.

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. Local vibe yet inviting for us visitors. Curds on point. Drinks are fabulous. Must stop each time we visit.
