ニエロー(Nghia Lo)の町を出てすぐ、国道QL32号線を北にムーカンチャイやラオカイ、サパに向かう道沿いの左手にあります。日本語で強引に翻訳すると「イエス・キリストの聖なる教会」という名の、カトリック教会です。
ある日の朝、この教会の外の塀に沿って、泥だらけのオフロードバイクが、何台も停められている光景に出遇いました。午後に再びニエローの町に帰るときには、すっかり姿を消し、教会の聖堂の門扉も閉まっていました。
恐らく、険しい山道をラオカイ方面に抜けていく旅行者たちが、道中の安全を祈って、朝のミサに参列していたのだろうと思います。
余談になりますが、私は２か月前に、鉄路でラオカイ~サパを訪問し、今回は改めて、バスでイエンバイ〜ニエローを再び訪れ、ここを拠点に、バイクで主にムーカンチャイをめざしておりました。
この町で出会うオフロードバイカーたちのほとんどは、一気にサパを目指している人が多く、ムーカンチャイのことを訪ねても、大げさに言えば「何それ?」っていう感じでした。
しかし、東京駅から群馬県あたりまでの距離感のある過酷な山道を、オンロードバイクだけで行った苦しい経験は、モン族と絶景とに出会うという何よりも得難い素晴らしい時間でした。インスタグラム(@arigato3db)

Nghĩa Lộ is a town in Yên Bái Province, in the north-east region of Vietnam. It is bordered by Văn Chấn District and Trạm Tấu District.
