Great little historical park in the Mohawk Valley. The tour going through the house lasts about an hour and is very informational. In the house you will see some artifacts including furniture that belonged to Revolutionary War hero Nicholas Herkimer. The architecture of the house is also well described. The park does a good job describing all parts of Herkimer's life including his role as a frontier farmer, businessman, father, slaveholder, and his death in the Revolutionary War.
Make sure to take in the Herkimer monument as well. The shores of the Mohawk River are also near. The Erie Canalway Bike Trail is also near the house and it is worth taking a ride on it.
Great place to go!

This is a well maintained historic home. I ended up with a one on one tour as I went during the week and there wasnt anyone there besides me. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and honest about what was authentic, what was authentic but from outside collections and what was replicated within the home. The grounds crews were busy keeping the area surrounding the house in order and the staff in the museum/welcome center were very attentive and available for any additional questions I had.

This is such an underrated site and such a beautiful park---the grounds were immaculate and the grass freshly cut---the day I visited, a Monday, when the museum/visitor center was closed (I knew it would be but we were visiting from a many, many miles away and the only day I had). I fear many that visit lack an understanding of the full scope of what it represents. Herkimer and the Battle of Oriskany were pivotal to US history in a number of ways. All historians recognize this as one of the bloodiest battles, in terms of casualty rates, of the Revolutionary War. Herkimer, after being mortally wounded prevented the battle from being a loss by re-organizing and concentrating his remaining troops in such a way that they held the field and were not routed. It also marks the first time that members of the Six Nations fought one another in combat during the war, which had lasting consequences, not just for the outcome of the war but for the very existence of some of the tribes and their leaders in their homeland (many, on the British side would end up re-settling in Canada w/their Loyalist allies after the war, including Mohawk leader Capt. Joseph Brant. Some historians note that this division of the first peoples and that many families were split asunder with some siding w/the Loyalist cause and others Patriot marked the first American Civil War. What a beautiful place to contemplate such a complex history.

What a beautiful little gem right off I-90. Not only does it have historic value, and you learn a lot about the Saratoga Campaign of the Revolutionary War, but it's just a beautiful corner of the Mohawk Valley. It's great to take a walk through the fields or see the historic cemetery. They are dog friendly and even provide dog bags to clean up. The house in the grounds are immaculately kept and it is well worth one stop or multiple.

Recently attended a ghost hunting event at the Herkimer Home. It was a lot of fun and inspired me to come back (during the day) to learn more about our area's local history.

The beautiful home of Nicholas Herkimer who was a son of German refugees who came and settled in America. Nicholas Herkimer was a Patriot during the Revolution and led his men into battle at the bloody fight at Oriskany. He was wounded here and had to have his leg amputated and he later died in his home from the wound.

The home is beautifully situated on a plain leading to the Mohawk River. Beautiful graveyard and monuments along with hiking trails and an extensive visitor center.

What a great place! We added it to our trip and were so glad we did! The tour guide was great, gave us a lot of information on the whole area, engaged us before, during and after the tour, giving us information on the past and the present! We will have to go back when we can spend more time and explore more of the grounds.

Scenic grounds, plenty of picnic tables, house tour was interesting and our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The blacksmith was also great. Only $4 for adults to take the tour. There is also a free visitors center. Nice for a day trip.

We participated in the house tour on 6/3/23. The guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions.
We also watched a blacksmith demonstration which we liked. We look forward to going back in September for the planned live reenacting. Thank you for a very enjoyable visit.

Just a beautiful site and full of history. The General was a hero of the Revolution. So glad New York State saved and maintains his home and grounds. Friendly, knowledgeable tour guides, all NYS employees with the Department of Parks and Recreation. A real treasure...and admission fee is minimal for adults and free for kids. Highly recommend.

Is a great spot on the banks of the Mohawk River. Amazing old house and grounds . General Herkimer led the area militia to stop the invasion by the British. Even though the battle was a draw it convinced the Indians and the British to leave once they heard a rumor that Benedict Arnold was it was coming with more troops. This is a beautiful quiet place.

The grounds are beautiful. My friend and I take our kids walking on the trail that runs behind Herkimer's home. My kids love to go look at all the educational signs posted. They love looking at the cannons and cannon balls. Today we went in the cemetery and found where General Herkimer and his wife are buried.
