Black Stone Bookstore & Cultural Center

Such an incredible book store. We found so many great books, and there was a quality selection to browse through. As you walk in, you're welcomed by books about race, both for adults and young adults. As you move down the store, you'll also find books about nature, self-help, education, biography/memoir and the like. Opposite these shelves is a splendid children's selection filled with diverse and beautiful books. As you make your way back, you'll find things like oils and soaps, t-shirts, and such. The person working today was lovely, and we appreciated the conversation. It's been added as one of our favorites, and we'll be back again.

Always appreciate coming in here - Carlos and everyone who works here bring a smile to my face and improve my mood every visit. They have excellent customer service, going the extra mile to support your request as much as possible and can order pretty much any book in print - anytime I buy a new book or need a gift or just a bit of connection & peace this is my go-to place.

I've discovered the BEST books, all-natural soaps, oils and butters and even my favorite toothpaste ever (herbal charcoal!) all in one place!

Fantastic place, friendly and personal customer service, and a wonderful selection with competitive prices. I ordered a book from a local author through their online store, and when I was unable to pick it up myself due to car trouble, a staff member worked with me to find a solution that was above and beyond what I could have hoped for (THANK YOU!). I will definitely default here for book purchases and highly suggest you do the same. I can't wait to check out the store in person!

Wonderful experience at Black Stone! I ordered books online, one was available right away and one needed to ship to store. They were easily accessible via email re: pickup availability. When we went in store to pick up, my 4 year old was so impressed with their children's book selection we had to choose one..helpful, kind staff and wonderful selection of books. We will be repeat customers in the future and highly recommend - buy local!

I love Blackstone bookstore. The owner and staff are amazing. I love the selection!!! They have online ordering and delivery if you do not find what you are looking for. From my understanding it is the only Black owned bookstore in Washtenaw County.

I have gotten a lot of great books at Black Stone Bookstore! I especially like their science fiction and fantasy sections, which introduced me to a lot of new authors. The employees are always helpful and they have given me great book recommendations, which helped me cope after finishing NK Jemisin's bibliography. Also, their online ordering system is very easy to use.

I had an awesome experience with Black Stone Bookstore, even though both books were back ordered and I needed them by a deadline for a school program. Carlos was able to re-route one set of books directly from the warehouse to my house. When we found out the other set of books wouldn't make it in time, he promptly issued a refund without any hassle. I will definitely continue to support this local business! The best bookstore. There's a great variety of fiction, nonfiction, wellness, and children's book selections. There's novels by local authors as well. The array of natural skin and hair care products, body oils, incense, African artifacts, music, clothing, incense and more are great gift ideas. Excellent customer care from a knowledgeable staff. Reading corner, great space for book signings, in-store performances.

My son purchased a gift almost a year ago but with the pandemic he forgot to pick it up. He asked me to pick it up this week and the owners had it ready at hand and were very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend!

Black Stone Bookstore is an African American owned businesses on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti. It's got a large inventory in a relatively small, pleasant space and the owner is very helpful. Ordering books on line from Black Stone is easy, too. Authors carried in the store are diverse, both current and classic writers. There's also a good children's section.Let's support this local independent bookstore!

The shop continues to add new features, updates, and inventory and Carlos does great work to meet the needs of his customers. It is wonderful to have a small bookstore in our town that is friendly and run with care. It's my go-to spot for local book shopping and orders. Give Black Stone a try!

Great, well-organized selection - from sci-fi to biography to fiction to children’s books. If they don’t have it in house, their online ordering system is SUPER easy to use and very fast for in-store pickup. Check out this store!

I haven't been to the physical store but ordered a book from them online. Was super quick and convenient! Took awhile to ship but that's due to the pandemic and the book being in high demand. Once it actually left the warehouse it arrived super quickly in perfect condition. I would definitely order from them again!
