Absolutely beautiful and the information boards went above and beyond on descriptions.

Can't say enough about this State Park! We needed a trip break and saw the highway sign....best stop of our trip! Not what you expect when heading down the two lane, and just when u are about to turn around...amazing view of the courthouse on the hill. Also a huge credit is the super engaged Park employee Zachary...he is so engaging, enthusiastic and a wealth of knowledge. We will be back and bringing others! Worth a day trip!

Very interesting historic site. Unfortunately there are no walking/hiking trails nearby although they do have hiking stick medallions and a stamp for the Arkansas State Park Club 52.

The courthouse doubles as the visitor center. It features some very interesting exhibits including a safe and vault used for Lawrence County tax collections. The park interpreter was extremely helpful giving us a brief rundown on some of the artifacts on display (how they were found and what they are). We also got a short explanation of a rivalry between Powhatan State Historic Site and the nearby Davidsonville State Historic Site (made the whole experience more interesting).

It's interesting to note that Powhatan might have faced a similar fate had they not had the bridge (no longer present).

Nice place with lots of history of Arkansas. You need to see Davidsonville State Park first since they are about 18 miles from each other.

Nice quiet historical park on the black river.
Cool old buildings on site with shaded picnic tables. Good spot for a break.

Nice state park full of history on the beautiful Black River. The old schoolhouse is part of the park and is really neat.

We took a group of 6th grade students on a field trip here. The park interpreters were great and had a wonderful set of programs for us. It was a lot of fun and very educational.

We have been here several times and never could catch it open. Today we made it. It is a very historic building. They have several interesting exhibits. A lot of information is provided about the area. The jail is located nearby. Old day prisons were very brutal. This courthouse is a very impressive building from the highway. Stop in you will be impressed.

This state park is also very close to Lake Charles and Davidsonville State Parks so you can get 3 AR State Parks Passport stamps in one day. The young lady working there was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The old courtroom upstairs has the most stunning wood work! If one is into AR history or history in general, you definitely want to stop here!

Great selection of history books in the gift shop!! In these modern times I’ve been finding fewer and fewer visitor centers with any kind of books at all on the area. This was a delightful exception!! I’m impressed with how well Arkansas builds and keeps their state parks! Many a state (including my own) could take notice!! Great job, rangers!!
