It was bone-chillingly cold that day with winds so strong that I could not keep myself standing. But the the scenic view of the place makes it worht it! Also a large part of the inner road is raw with rocks and potholes and muddy. Do be careful when you drive up there and try to use a car suited for rough terrain!

Great spot! The campsites are first come, first serve, so it’s a roll of the dice on whether or not there will be any available on the weekend. We got there around 3pm on Friday and snagged the last one. Plenty of people drove through after looking for spots. Access points to a number of hikes nearby and plenty of trees to throw up a hammock. There is no water out there so make sure you bring enough!!

Great campground @ $11/day. Sites are close together but still offer privacy. Two Compost type restrooms available which are clean and stocked with TP. Bear Creek trailhead is within 100m. Get there by 4pm if you want a choice location.

While it's rough getting to Dolly Sods wilderness, the campgrounds themselves are easy to get to themselves, and it's just a short walk to the Black bird Knob trail with other just a short drive away.
There's only 12 sites on the ring and no attendant to take payments for sites only a board at the entrance with pay envelopes for cash or check and a spot to drop off envelopes. Never saw a park ranger while on site but it's orderly and clean and the vault toilets had plenty of toilet paper stocked in them. Just don't expect being able to restock supplies at a lil store on site and you will be good to go.

Loved it. Amazing and beautiful area. Crowded at times but we came in during a rain storm leftover from a hurricane so had plenty spots to choose from. It gets cold up there, our visit on 1st week of october, one day in town for supplies it reached 55°f but by time we got back to the top of the mountain it was 38. Mid day. Not taking into account the wind chill cause the wind does not stop up there so be prepared. Closest town for supplies is about 45 min away, 30 of those is just the climb up the mountain. No potable water but there is a spring to get water form for cleaning and bathing, sign suggests boiling or treating water for any potable use.

Great site. Bathrooms were very clean. Some sites are more private than others so get there early in the day. Firefly’s were incredible at night. Highly recommend.

Nice campground up in the wilderness. Saw a black bear at the overlook across the street by the parking area for the trailhead.

Very pretty. Very clean. Definitely recommend. We stayed on a very cold night in November and the campsites were nearly taken so come early.

Just returned from second camping trip at Red Creek, as a serious nature lover there is nothing I can say negative about these grounds-even with the very rocky/rough long road up to the place. No cell-service, phenomenal overlooks of the area, beautiful thick rich authentic wilderness leaves me excited for the next trip! I've lots of plans to backpack. Just bring your own water, have plenty of gas before you head up too- nearest town is at least 30 minutes away. You will be in a remote area.

A small campground with about a dozen sites. All the sites are well spaced from each other and offer privacy.

Surprisingly, it was full on a Thursday night when we visited and we were able to get to the last site. We were able to sleep a few tents and cars on one of the sites. The area is very quiet at night.

The restroom facility is very clean.

No water source at the camp site.

The whole family and the dog stayed (dogs must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after of course). The campground had 12 campsites with 2 restrooms in the middle. It was a very nice little campground with plenty of trails around.

I stayed here with 3 friends on 11/06/2021. It was really cold, but the camp fire held us up throughout the night. It was a great place to relax, be without phones and enjoy quality time with friends. The parking space is pretty big seeing we fit 1 big truck and 2 SUVs. We got there pretty early on Saturday and there were around 4 sites available which was great since we didn't have a backup plan in case it was full. We set up 2 tents, but then decided to set 1 bigger tent instead which fit great. Be sure to take your firewood! We forgot, but drove about 30 min down the mountain and found a small shed where they sold $10 bundles. Great experience and will definitely go back. If you have a small 2 person camper trailer it will fit. The road up there was pretty narrow at times so I don't recommend taking a camper bigger than 16ft since it's one road for 2-way traffic.

Great little campground!
Host seemed pretty cool & chill and enjoys his position.
Clean...quiet...prime location (only game in town if you want/need a picnic table & vault toilet)

Managed to snag only site available on a Wednesday 10am...glad I got there when I did! Constant flow of folks looking to land a site. Just high demand right now...cars everywhere on the main artery.

Have a Plan B...even on a weekday

Don't show up on the weekend if you want a spot. Well maintained, clean restrooms.

Small, 12 site, primitive campground, pit toilets, very convenient to hiking trails. No potable water, either bring water or filter the water from the spring. Path to the spring is to the left of parking for campsite 3. No lights, great for stargazing.

Nice campground in a beautiful part of the country. Road driving up is a bit precarious.

Great place to camp. Very windy most of the time you're on top of a mountain.
