I only visited the cemetery on the grounds as the museum was closed that day, and it was beautiful. Old historic headstones and monuments, it was so peaceful just walking around the grounds. The church is beautiful stone, absolutely stunning. Great part of NY state, lots to see and do - put this place on your list, especially if you like cemeteries.

I was there for the cemetery tour, but have visited the museum previously as well. The building itself is fascinating and the museum offers a good collection of items illustrating local history, and I love the collection of curiosities displayed upstairs, from their original 19th Century collection. In addition to the main building, there is additional display space across the street, where a collection of perhaps eight other historic buildings have been relocated.

If you visit, take the time to go an additional half-block down the street to see the lovely and historic covered bridge.

Another great site of the Revolutionary War in the Schoharie Valley. The highlight for me is ALWAYS the cannonball hole in one of the eaves in the back by the cemetery. It was "put" there by Joseph Brant and John Johnson during the Schoharie Valley Raid on October 17, 1780. Photos of the hole are near the end of the photos I have added here.

Beautiful museum that details the history of this part of the Catskills. Lots of history to be learned how Revolutionary wars and battles played out here

Inside lots of relics and pieces from the past to gaze upon. Other buildings are part of the grounds as well like an old school house for example m

I really enjoyed this museum, there is a lot to see and it's interesting to see all the history preserved here. We could have used more time but I did have a 9 yr old and 4 yr old with me so the amount of time we were there was enough for them. We had a lot of fun with the scavenger hunt and at the school house. The staff were great as well, knowledgeable and engaging. Definitely worth the visit if you ever get the chance!

Wonderful museum, great staff. Small admission fee, but reduces rate for children up to 17. Great displays in multiple buildings. Don't miss the nearby covered bridge, walking distance from the museum.

What an amazing walk through history in such a beautiful setting! The folks who volunteer there are well versed in the battles that took place in the area...amazing! Great covered bridge and park down the road.

This was originally a church that was fortified into a really unique and strong stone fort. It was fired upon once during the Revolutionary war and you can still see the cannon hole and ball lodged in the wood of the fort. Really a unique place as I've never seen a church modified to serve a military purpose before.

The inside is absolutely amazing with artifacts from prehistoric times right up to the present day. There are unique an amazing collections from around the world - including warriors weapons from the Philippines. Check out the upstairs for their amazing display of artifacts. The oldest firetruck in the United States is also here! Great and friendly staff too.

My family visited because of the cemetery. I have some ancestors buried there. We did walk around to see everything. So much from the past to see on exhibit. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

A fun and charming place to spend a weekend afternoon. The wife and I drove down from Albany for their annual History Fair. The museum is just outside the town of Schoharie, which adds a ton of small town charm. The fair was very well organized, had a number of very good historic demonstrations from colonial America to WW II. Not huge, but well run and a lot of fun.

The museum itself always has a lot of neat stuff to see. The curator is a big history and historic renovation buff, which helps tons.

If you are nearby or if you're interested in a day trip, check out the Old Stone Fort Museum.

My son and I had a great time today. We spoke with Mike. He was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to chat with. The museum itself is extremely well done. The insights and history with Mike really brought the place alive.

Incredible little museum. An actual revolutionary war battle site. Lots of very interesting artifacts such as fossils, arrowheads, colonial weapons, and more. One of the country’s oldest (perhaps THE oldest) fire engine is on site. Also on site are a Dutch barn, a one room schoolhouse, and other historic buildings. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Old Stone Fort Museum is like heaven for history buffs, particularly those interested in early American war history. The museum is literally packed wall to wall with artifacts, mostly from the local area, from different eras. My favorite piece in the museum is the first "fire truck" in America, Deluge Number One, circa 1731. It was made in England and shipped to America I was told, and one year older than George Washington. The museum is purportedly haunted but I don't think ghost hunting is allowed. The museum is definitely worth visiting if you are interested in early American history, particularly the various wars fought in the north east.
