This is hallowed round. What a breathtaking experience remembering such brave souls that died here. This history reminds us of what we should never embark upon again. I was honored to visit this place and look forward to passing this history on. I hope others that visit here experience this same memory as well.

The museum is closed for renovations but you can see an absolutely spectacular movie telling the story of the Battle of Shiloh. The grounds are open and fantastic!

The self-guided tour in the NPS app is great to listen to along with reading the more than 20 tour stop signs. It can be done without even leaving your vehicle.

But for those ready for a small stop, the self-guided tour and point you to where walk and see the sites yourself.

Loved driving through and listening to the stories. It was raining and cold but we could stay in the car and still enjoy it. Went to the bookstore and found a couple of books. We didn't have time to watch the movie, but we will plan on it next time.

We visited today. My suggestion is to watch the movie at the visitor center before taking the driving tour. It is very informative, and when you drive to see the places on the driving tour, you have an understanding of what happened where. The park is beautiful, well maintained, and everyone is very helpful. Plan several hours at a minimum.

Almost twenty years in the making of taking a return trip to Shiloh. Really the only memory I have as a kid at Shiloh is of a cannon and trees. I finally had the chance and day off to go back down and go on a hike that was offered by the park. I went on Wood's Brigade Hike on Saturday, March 25th, with Ranger Timothy Arnold as the tour guide. The hike was estimated to last 8 miles and and take 6 and-a-half hours, we were finished roughly a little over 7 miles and took us about 4 and-a-half hours. I will say not bad, considering this was my first hike, I wanted to see if I could handle the distance, time and terrain. I have plans to go back when they have more hikes for the anniversary of the battle. Ranger Arnold was excellent and he knew the battle and land extremely well. I had been worried that the hike would be canceled due to the severe storms we had the night before, but to my and other's delight, the hike was still on. I know the pictures I took were not the best, but I wanted to be more in the moment than behind the phone. Shiloh is a really interesting place to be and visit.

My favorite NPS historical park. Always well maintained. They have bathrooms new thus year around the park. The visitor center movie is well done.

We spent half a day here and have to go back. So much history, great rangers, and lots of info concerning the battles fought here. You simply learn more when you experience it, over reading about it in a book. The park is pristine and signage allows you to self tour.

We are so glad we took the time to stop to visit Shiloh National Military Park. The area of so much sadness is so well presented, paying respect to all fallen soldiers with beautiful monuments and well displayed historical artifacts. Very informative and very humbling.

Shiloh National Military Park is great! I love it every time I go, this time I got to bring my grandson. The park rangers are very helpful and knowledgeable. Check in at the visitor center when you first arrive. You're provided with a map of the park, listing all the important places. You drive through the park at your own pace. There are plenty of places to stop and take pictures & learn about the area.

I learned quite a lot about the battle. I attended three interpretive discussions and demonstrations, which were educational and interesting. Also, seeing the movie (great!) before doing the audio tour drive around the battlefield was helpful. I enjoyed my day and will return with family members.

Very nice park. Very well mantained. Alot of fields where battles took place are well preserved, with signs and plaques describing what battle took place there. But my favorite part was a wooded hallow where one battle was fought. It gives you an appreciation for how hard it must have been in that war. You could just imagine the 2 sides coming over the ridges and meeting in the creek.
One thing I did notice though was the obvious absence of any Confederate flags. How can you have a southern battle field park without any Confederate flags?. I would assume they were flying them all over the park befor the BLM movement...

The park showed the complexity and challenges of the battle. The auto tour was very educational and helped understand the time sequence of days of the encounter. Will need to return and absorb more insight...don't forget to visit Corinth for the follow-up...

The NP does a great job at given the history behind the battle. It needs to be emphasized that Corinth MS was a main objective. I did not know this until we arrived at Shiloh. We then visited Corinth Interpretive Center and found that equally as educational.

Years ago when I was still doing American Civil War reenacting, our unit participated in the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh. While in Shiloh, TN we visited the Shiloh National Military Park and Cemetery.

The battle took place in southwestern Tennessee, which was part of the war's Western Theater. The battlefield is located between a church named Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing, which is on the Tennessee River.

The battle resulted in nearly 24,000 killed, wounded, and missing. The two days of fighting did not end in a decisive tactical victory for either side—the Union held the battlefield but failed to pursue the withdrawing Confederate forces. However, it was a decisive strategic defeat for the Confederate forces that had massed to oppose Grant's and Buell's invasion through Tennessee. After the Battle of Shiloh, the Union forces proceeded to capture Corinth and the critical railroad junction there.

The battlefield is named after Shiloh Methodist Church, a small log church near Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. Pittsburg Landing is the point on the Tennessee River where the Union forces landed for the battle; they referred to the battle as "The Battle of Pittsburg Landing".

A big disappointment is the park’s museum, which is nothing more than a generic Civil War museum with exhibits on such things as cannon, drummer boy life, field hospitals, ammunition, and uniforms. Information on the battle itself is surprisingly absent, other than an information panel detailing the commanding officers at the Battle of Shiloh and a few displays of artifacts found on the battlefield. You can read all of the information in about 15 minutes.

There are two short videos at the museum, both playing on a constant loop. One shows how Civil War-era canon are fired, and the other is a collection of personal items, letters, and photos of soldiers who died at Shiloh. Both are roughly 3.5 minutes long.

I give the museum 4 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

However, the battle grounds and cemetery will give you chills as you walk on sacred ground where so many gave their lives during this decisive time in American history which shaped our country's direction for years to come.

Worth the visit.

Laid out like Gettysburg with canons in place, historical markers/monuments throughout the park of what happened where; the film in the Auditorium of the Welcome Center is worth seeing! And DON'T FORGET to visit the sweet couple in the Bookstore/gift shop across the road!... I'd love to go back with More time!

Beautiful and informative look at one of the deadliest battles in United States history. My time was limited, but I was able to visit the Shiloh Church and other key locations.

This place is beautiful and educational, as well as a little emotional. I would recommend starting at the visitor center and watching the 45 minute video about the battle. It's very detailed. Then head over to the bookstore where they have a ton of books and cool stuff for kids and adults. The cemetery is just behind that, and there is a path that takes you down to the river. Then you can walk or drive and take a tour of where the battle took place. You could definitely spend a whole day here, maybe two. If you have time, I suggest making the 30 minute drive to Corinth, MS where there's another museum about the battle that followed Shiloh for the railroad.
