Beautiful trail. When you come into the trailhead be sure to visit the information board. Going far left will be a short easy hike up to the falls. Chosing the trail to the right will be slightly harder as there is an incline. We did a sunrise hike but unfortunately did not catch a view of the sunrise! Great place to cool off and take a dip in the water. Lots of bridges and stairs.

Some interesting local history and an easy hike to a large waterfall. Worth the drive!

We make a yearly trip to the falls and find it beautiful each visit. The trail is not difficult. We take hiking sticks but mist don’t. The sections of the stream walking to the falls are wonderful and wooden bridges cross the streams a few times. We love it

This was really a surprise. I think I might like this trail better than Crabtree Falls. Most of the trees still hadn't bloomed yet so I can't imagine how beautiful it is out here in the spring, summer and fall. The trail for the falls was about a mile and a half and was an easy hike. I would say about a third of it was a boardwalk. Our kids loved it. They have restrooms in the parking lot that were clean. The drive up here was nice and there are plenty of other sites to see in the area if you want to make a day out of it.

What a stunning waterfall!! Great little hike up. So beautiful. I have avoided most people both times I have visited by timing it right.

Tony and I went to Roaring Run Furnace In the Jefferson National Forest. This is a stone Built Pig Iron Furnace built in 1830. This 192 yr old construction is still standing and looks like they could just start using it again today

The park was easy to find with GPS. It is free to enjoy. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Well marked trails. The Furnace is located about 500 feet from the parking lot and bathrooms. There is plenty of picnic tables and a creek for fishing and cooling off in warmer weather.
There is also a waterfall to hike to!!
Nice park and highly recommend especially for the historic value! Great day trip or field trip for home schooling!!

Beautiful, easy, kid-friendly hike. Kind of in the middle of nowhere, but if you find yourself in the area, definitely worth the visit. Watch out for deer on the drive in. We had 2 jump out in front of the car on our way in.

The stuff poetry is made of! We combined this hike with a stay at one of Erika’s Blue Ridge Yurts in Pilot Virginia (about a 50 minute drive from the yurt to the falls), resulting in an absolutely magical weekend - an experience our children will never forget. It was an easy, safe hike but not boring in the least with lots of enchanting bridges, flowers, boardwalks and pools to soak your feet in. Lots of steps (we did not take the path through the woods) but my guess is that an active toddler could handle this hike with some help. We did see a teen get pretty banged up sliding off the larger “rock slide” halfway up the trail which helped me decide not to follow in his footsteps - although tempting😂! I agree with the review that the water quality is questionable, but we got there after heavy rainfall so it was hard to tell. The bathrooms were still closed☹. There is a picnic area if you want to bring your own lunch. If you are exploring the area and don’t mind long drives (under an hour) though, I suggest eating in downtown Floyd or Roanoke. Both have wonderful places to eat with outdoor seating (Outer Space in Floyd being particularly special). Make sure you have enough gas and water; I don’t remember seeing any gas stations nearby.

Super enjoyable and a short relaxing hike that was only 1.4 miles for the loop. The views and change in leaves were excellent

Beautiful place for a hike! Not strenuous at all. Two ways to get to the falls. We like going up the trail and then walking back down.
Plenty of parang it’s free. Bathrooms are closed still.

An absolutely wonderful place to hike and learn some local history. The trails are relatively easy and would be great for kids or pets. The hike to the waterfalls is definitely worth it and there are a lot of photo opps along the way.

Great hikes. We took the woodland trail to the falls and the creekside trail on the way back. Neither were too difficult. The creekside was stunning. The falls were full blast after good rain. Found some natural slides that made it fun for the kids. The furnace history was interesting as well.

We took a hike up to the top of the falls last weekend with our little pup. Have been here a few times before, its a great place the wateraide trail is the cooler of the two. I am Not sure if you can still swim here i had heard they did away with swimming but dont think i saw any signs saying that they had. The one sign i saw said no climbing on the rocks at the top of the falls. Overall a great place to bring family and friends.

Excellent hike with beautiful waterfalls. Best way to go is take loop to the right. The furnace is awesome and its a easy hike to waterfalls. Lots of stopping places on the ways back down to dip into water.

Such a beautiful trail to walk. So peaceful to follow the stream. Well worth the roughly mile-long hike to see the falls. Be sure to stop by and check out the furnace as well. Such a great find. There were very few people here upon arriving and no one else when we left so it was very serene and pleasant. I highly recommend a stop here!

My kids and I joined a group of friends for a spring hike this week. The weather was great! It was cool, and the rain from last week had mostly dried along the trails. It was the first time that my family had been to Roaring Run, and we'll definitely be back to see the trail in other seasons. I walked the trail with ease in tennis shoes and with the littlest in the backpack carrier. The other kids in our group (ages 4 through 15) had no difficulty with the hike. The more adventurous kids needed redirected a few times, but we finished up the hike with not much more than a few scraped knees.

Great short hike and the natural water slides are a blast. If you want to go on a longer hike they have some over 5 miles.
