What a little hidden treasure of a NC State Campground! Only a dozen or so sites, but we were able to book a Saturday site online just a day in advance in late August. Site #2 is VERY shaded. There are well maintained and cleaned toilets and showers, a dish washing area, water spout and phone charging sockets (at the toilet block). There's Somerset House next door (a historical plantation site that's well worth touring) and a swimming area along the boardwalk near the campground. Oh, and there's a boat ramp/jetties - great for star gazing over lake Phelps. All for just $26 a night! Do pack your bug spray.

What a fine little campground. The Ranger was very nice.

Ain't bad. Be careful if you reserve site 1, as I doubt a wide vehicle or trailer could make it through without scraping the trees. Pictures attached of the driveway getting in. Site was shady with midday and evening partial sun, with a level spot next to the fire ring. The rest of the spot was not level at all.

Small campground, only two other campers in February. The tundra swans were interesting and noisy. Nice little hikes in the area. Definitely a bear presence, as evidenced by the marks on a tree, so don't leave your food out.

Excellent little campground with only 13 sites! Clean bathroom and showers. You can make reservations online (Verizon cell service was good). They have firewood for sale at the entrance. Sites 1-6 are more in the woods and sites 7-13 are more in the open field area. Typical fire ring, tent pad and picnic table at each site.

This place has only 13 sites so it doesn’t feel so crowded like some other popular camping places. One side of the loop ( with bathroom) is much less private, you park and camp next to your neighbor. This side is all grassy, so there were lots of mosquitoes. Toilet doesn’t flush super well, had to press and hold the button for a while. Overall, it’s a nice quiet place to stay after enjoying the beautiful lake.

We love camping here. Quiet, peaceful, primitive camping. Adequate bath house. Picnic area close to the lake. The Scupernong River is close by not to mention Lake Phelps has a boat ramp here in the park. Beautiful sunsets!

Great small campground in a quiet state park. Only 13 sites. We have stayed here twice in the last month, and have a night away planned in June as well. Nothing fancy here but thoroughly enoyable.

This is a hidden gem. Rustic camping. Outstanding view of the lake with easy access. Boat ramp, board walk and picnic area. It's very quite. Huge cypress trees in the middle of nowhere. Perfect sunsets.

Been camping here every year for at least 30 yrs. at least once a year every April and sometimes in the fall on October, great campsites, showers, faucets at certain areas between camp sites, battery charging station for your boat batteries, great lake to fish within 300yds of the campsites, Lake Phelps, has largemouth bass, pickerel, catfish, spotted gar, bream, pumpkin seed, coontail perch, bowfin or blackfish, a real variety of fishing, a historic plantation to tour, trails to walk and enjoy, piers to fish from and a designated swim area, it has it all, highly recommend.
