Oceanside Drive-In Campground

It is just so unforgettable! Ocean waves, sunrises, horses and Milky Way!

We came in for a camping overnight trip as we were able to find a reservation for a lot with assigned parking. The area is very private feeling for a national park because the lots are very well spaced.

The beach at night is so calming and magical feeling that it feels like it took you to another place entirely. Come during a full moon and it will feel like it's almost a twilight hour. We sat at the shore and just watched the tide, it felt so surreal.

Can't forget to mention the wild horses that roam about. They are very beautiful and add great character to the area.

Word of warning, bring the best bug repellant you can find on market and keep applying it because the flies here are friggin carnivores.

Assateague Island offers a combination of pristine ocean beaches, hiking and biking trails, and daily exposure to the wild horses on the island. There are no hook-ups in the campground, but fresh water, dump station, trash bins, and well maintained pit toilets are available. An added bonus is that the island is within close proximity to Ocean City, Maryland and the boardwalk. Verizon cellular service clocked in at 33.5 Mbps download speed and 3.24 upload speed. AT&T clocked in at 5.95 Mbps download speed and 3.85 upload speed. If you visit this National Seashore, please respect the rules and stay at least 10 feet away from the wild ponies and horses. Too many folks were hand feeding these horses and even petting them, which is dangerous for both the horse and people. These animals may be corralled and no longer be able to freely roam the island if visitors continue to violate the well posted park rules.

We love coming to Assateague in the 'off' season. Plenty of room for our rig and you simply can't beat the provisions & views provided by mother nature.

Nice sites, right on the beach. Great time. The horses walked through our camp about 3:45am.

This is the spot my family occupates for two weeks every summer for the last 15 years. It's the closest spot to the bathrooms and faucets without excessive sand. The only down side is that the winds occasionally blow the porta potty smell into your site. Only lasts for a few seconds, and hey, that's camping! Assateague is an incredibly special place, and this is the best campsite available. Be ready to book 6 months in advance at 10:00EST ON THE DOT!

This is one of my favorite places in the world to go. You can camp here, take your pets, have campfires on the beach and share good times with family and friends. This is a memory making destination. No electricity or water. Self contained camping. It can get hot. You need to be prepared for the heat, the weather, the wild ponies, the mosquitoes, and biting flies. (Gosh that sounds negative but it is true)

Well...yeah. This place is just gorgeous. There's an OSV beach but you have to have a permit. There's a nature trail as well which is gorgeous. You can walk to the beach from the campsite in a matter of minutes and I also watched the sunrise over the Atlantic which is arguably one of the most beautiful things I've ever seem

Scallops so fresh we could practically see the boat they came off of. Best coconut shrimp I've ever tasted!

Amazing experience! Just wish more people cared to clean up after themselves better. But that's a reflection on people, not the park/campground. This will be an annual trip for us for the foreseeable future.
