Hard to beat Sunset Rock on Cass Lake's beautiful Star Island. Not to be missed. Check it out!
"Star Island is one of the unique features of the Chippewa National Forest. Named for its star shape, 'Star Island' is the largest of four islands in Cass Lake and has over eight miles of shoreline and encompasses 980 acres of both public land and private homes. Six miles of trails wind along the high banks and deep woods of the island, providing opportunities for hiking and nature study. Lake Windigo sits inside Star Island. The correct name of this rock is ‘Big Rock,’ not Sunset Rock. My family has owned a cabin on the North Shore of Star Island since the early sixties. Islanders and locals alike have always referred to this large stone as Big Rock, not to mention it’s also identified on island maps as such.
