I wholeheartedly beg whoever is reading this to not bring their beloved pet to Rothman. If it’s between Rothman and an ER vet pay a little extra and go to the ER. For regular vet care I recommend Dr. Sheehan.

Rothman owner Dr. Mark Esser and employee Dr. Javic are poor veterinarians. Our dog was very ill and an X-ray was taken and read by Dr Javic who said that there was no abnormality when in fact there was a basketball size tumor in our dogs spleen. He sent us on our way with no answers and a $500 bill (exam, X-ray, prescription we didn’t need). The next morning our dog was much worse and we took him to an ER vet who asked Rothman for copies of the X-ray. For some reason Rothman could not properly send them and someone took a picture with their phone of the X-ray and emailed it over. On the X-ray the giant tumor could be seen by more qualified doctors. The ER vets also identified the tumor upon examination while waiting for the X-rays when Dr. Javic simply mentioned that their was some tenderness in that area. In the end our dog had to be put down and not much could have been done for our dog between being at Rothman and being at the ER except saving our dog a days worth of pain but my husband and I went to talk to Dr Esser the next day to inform him of the X-ray error to perhaps prevent it from happening to another animal. Unfortunately, he was defensive, insensitive, rude and dismissive. Our dog was put down just hours earlier and he couldn’t have cared less or been more disrespectful. He hurried us out of the exam room we were put to chat with him (we didn’t deserve the respect of his office I suppose) and laughed when we suggested reimbursement.

In the end we feel taken advantage of and regret trusting him with our dog. Dr. Esser’s Rolex and big Cadillac are a gross misinterpretation of the quality of establishment he runs and makes it glaringly obvious his true focus. That with the combined lack of skill between him and Dr. Javic it is my sincere recommendation to steer clear of Rothman.

Very disappointed by customer service at Rothman. I brought my new rescue dog here for a routine check-up and to get a Rx for heart worm preventative medication. I opted not to purchase the Rx at Rothman because I knew I could pay much less online. I placed the online order for the Rx on June 23. The online company tried faxing a request to Rothman on June 23 and June 24 to obtain the Rx. Rothman didn't response. The online company called Rothman today and Rothman told them that I would need to pick up a paper prescription and snail mail it in because it is their "policy" not to fax prescriptions. Come on people, we aren't talking about a prescription for percocet or oxy. It is for a HEARTWORM preventative. Now, because I have to snail mail the Rx in and wait for it to be manually processed, I will not receive the Rx until after the 4th of July holiday. My dog isdue for the pill on 7/1.

Clearly, Rothman wants to make things as difficult as possible on those who wish to purchase their ped meds elsewhere. This is ridiculous and completely the opposite of what a veterinarian should do - look after the best interest of the dog (not their own pocketbooks). If they really wanted to follow this absurd policy, why didn't they tell me about the policy at my appointment when i said i was going to purchase online? Or 5 days ago when the online company first made the request. Or 4 days ago when the online company made the second request? Had they done that then, I would have had plenty of time to mail the Rx in and give my dog her Rx on-time.

Major fail. Total lost of trust in this vet. I will be bringing my dog elsewhere from now on.

I strongly agree with Lauren's assessment of Dr. Esser. I took two of my cats to him for testing and treatment years ago and stopped using him once I realized that he's all about money and lacks compassion towards animals and humans. His bills were outrageously high and he performed all kinds of tests, some totally unnecessary, on my cats for which he never received my permission. He also added unnecessary meds to my bill. I'm sorry to read that he's still gouging clients. And his complete lack of sensitivity to a couple whose dog had just been euthanized is extremely disturbing. It's a shame -- Dr. Rothman and his wife were tops in running the clinic and caring for animals. Their name is now being sullied.
