The ice is still there, the walk is around 2.2 miles round trip (not a mile like the sign has said). Come prepared, it is extremely icy and you need ice tracks, cleats, or any other from of boot that is suitable for the icy conditions. Overall it is a beautiful peaceful hike. I definitely recommend going early in the morning when there are not as many people. Enjoy the hike and stay safe. It can get dangerous if you fall.

We visited from Missouri and enjoyed seeing the ice caves. We went early in the morning, heard it gets crowded quick. Fairly easy hike, definitely recommend ice cleats as there were 2 pretty steep hills.

We took the advice of other reviewers and arrived early, at about 10 am, which resulted in great parking, and we were able to take many pictures of the ice cave without any traffic. We definitely would recommend spikes for your shoes and even a walking stick to help balance on icy spots. Right before getting to the Caves is a tricky section of narrow trail and steeper sections that were iced over. We made our 5y/o daughter sit and slide on a few parts for safety. That said, our 5y/o was able to do the hike with just a bit of hand holding and encouragement. It's definitely worth it! What a treat to visit, and we appreciate the owners for sharing this majesty!

So so beautiful. My husband, me, and our 5 and 7 year old boys have been doing the hike every year for the past 3 years and I've been doing it since I was their age. A lot more tourists these days, so be prepared for messy parking and road there, possibly a hike to the hike if you hit it on a busy day. So worth it though. Most people who aren't used to hiking ice may want picks for their boots, my kids handle it just fine without them though. Happy hiking!

Eben Ice Caves - nature never disappoints! The new parking area & bathroom at the trailhead is a welcome addition & is greatly appreciated! Update - with the addition of the parking lot & bathroom, there is also an opportunity to contribute to the upkeep, as this is on private property. Went during the week & only one other family visiting. It was nice to get some great photos! The trail was widened (thank you), however there are a few challenging spots to get across - so definitely recommend using Yak Traks or a similar product on your boots.

ABSOLUTELY HANDS DOWN A HIDDEN GEM 💎 in the U.P. It's about a 1.2 mile walk from the NEW parking lot. (Across the field) The hike wasn't that bad totally worth the epic views! ✨💙💙🩵 Perfect day with the family spot for FREE!! Concessions out there on the weekends for souvenirs etc.

A bit smaller than I expected, but definitely a spot to see. Snow cleats are a must, it starts to get uphill and slippery once you make it to the ice cave. The trail to the spot is easy to walk. It's better to go earlier in the day too, it started getting crowded around 2-3pm

We visited 2.13.21, the trail was pretty easy to walk (with ice cleats) it took us about 20-30min to get to the ice. Our group: 2 young adults, 11yr, and 6yr old (pretty healthy). I went a few years back with my older relative and it took us twice as long without ice cleats and walking slower. So please be mindful of your outdoor activity level and be prepared, wear snow pants so you can slide down some of the hills because there are a few, including one on the way back down from the ice caves.

Our first trip to the Eben Ice Caves, but most definitely not our last. Enjoyable walk through the woods to the Caves. We had our 3 year old son with us and no ice cleats. The last 30 yards up to the Caves was a little sketchy for us, but we made the slick ascent. It was well worth the workout in passing our son back and forth as we traversed up the final hill. We have never seen anything like this before so we enjoyed the experience of it all! Will return with ice cleats. Thank you to the private land owners who open their field for us to pass through. The Porta Potties are greatly appreciated!!

Ice caves were absolutely beautiful!! The hike there and back is about a mile, and it was a little treachourous due to iciness so I would highly recommend anyone who goes there get spikes put on their boots. It was pretty busy with people (it was a Saturday) so it kind of took away from the splendour of it, but overall it was a great hike.

Eben ice caves is a fantastic place to visit. That being said, it is VERY TOUGH to get to if you don't have spikes on your boots/shoes or have small children with you. If you want to go, please make sure you have a good set of spikes (plenty of options on Amazon) with you. Also, it's about 2 miles hiking/walking round trip to see it so be prepared for that as well. It's a beautiful hike but might be worth bringing water or a small snack.

Great place to go and explore the wonders of winter. Hike in (roughly 40 minutes) through increasingly difficult terrain. The falls are beautiful and ever-changing... Meet lots of nice folks and am never disappointed. Make a day of it and enjoy the frozen falls.

Beautiful! Everyone can move at their own pace. Ice cleats are a must to go in the cave. Dog and kid friendly. Just sit down and slide on the way out! No risk of a fall that way, and it's FUN! From pictures I have seen weekends are busy. We went on a Monday, and there were a dozen people.

Insane experience. Ice cleats were absolutely a necessity, and we still ended up crawling a steep spot with our hands and knees (and sliding off on our rear ends). Took a little over an hour to reach it, but it was worth it. Pay attention to the path you take. Last 1/4 of it isn't marked well. Still a lot of the cave left even in late March.

We had a wonderful time and the hike wasn’t that bad , however you should be prepared for slippery conditions and balance is required to explore the caves - a UP must see for all

What a cool place to visit. The Eben Ice Cave is located at the end of Frey Rd between Marquette and Munising, Michigan . There is a big parking lot and porta toilets before you venture down the trailhead. There is a donation box for the parking lot upkeep at $5/vehicle. To the cave is about .8 of a mile and the first part is flat. It then gets a bit hilly. Traction cleats would be great for this part but isn’t a necessity. We did slide on our bottoms a couple times, made things interesting. The cave area isn’t large and by 10 am it started to get busy, so if you want good pics, I suggest going early. By the time we started venturing out we were stripping back our layers. Overall, a great experience!#UP,#ebenicecave, #UPadventures

I finally made it to the caves and luckily someone was already there with some lights!..... If you want to visit at night, do yourself a favor and take about 10 lights with you. It's a bit of a hike out and honestly I thought the area was going to be ALOT bigger but I wasn't disappointed...... Definitely check it out

You are going to need yaktrax to walk this trail. It's not mapped out nor is it something you just walk straight to. So once you get to the water...keep looking up and to the right. Then you are in for another hike. Ya'll Goodluck. It is a really cool experience, worth 9 hours of driving with my sister...and an additional 9 miles of hiking that we added to this trip, going to the beach of Lake Superior, Foggies in Christmas MI...for a lunch in a warm tent outside..and an limitless amount of laughing yes!!! If you are just going for the ice cave..um... I'll keep quiet about that...keep in mind there is a ton more to do. Bucket list check for my sister. Fantastic experience... steer clear of WOLVERINES.. they breathe heavy. ♡♡♡

Beautiful place to walk in the woods, beautiful scenery. Can be a bit treacherous footing at times with the slopes and hills. Highly recommend wearing foot gear for traction.

A must see in northern Michigan. This hike is a little dicey, but worth it. Please wear ice spikes. You will not regret it.
