Awesome flashback diner on RT 66!
It doesn’t look flashy, but it makes up for it with great food
You will step back in time when you go here…when the appeal was good service and great tasting food
Homemade, fresh, huge Chocolate Chip Pancakes. Perfect and tasty bacon. Thick French Toast. Fantastic BLTs. And really large drink glasses.
They hit every mark and don’t break the bank. Just go.

We ate here for lunch. I'm glad we passed i-40 going east. It's just odd i-40 on the south side of old route 66. It's very close to the blue hole. My wife had the patty melt it was on Rye Bread, a thin hamburger pattie, but excellent flavor. I had the chili rellanos plate 2, which was almost more than I could eat. Egg battered not really crispy but still great lots of cheese. I had the green chili sauce on top, very good, not spicey. The beans were very good, not refried . The rice reminded my wife of her grandmother's Mexican rice. She was very happy. Chips and salsa were fresh. I loved the chunky salsa. We will be back.

Looks old and outdated but the food is spectacular! Service was also excellent. Got hash browns with meat and two eggs. This came with salsa and the taste was amazing. Also got a cup of menudo and it was made right and super good! This place is very good and deserves more than 5 stars. 👍

What a cute place! We went in with only 45 minutes left before closing (we aren’t local, we drive a truck and were unaware until we pulled up) Usually we get dirty looks if that happens. I told my husband if they seemed upset, we would just get it to-go. When we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and were told to pick a spot. She gladly served us and was so sweet! My husband got the chicken fajita dinner and I asked what she recommended. She said the New Mexico Chile Burger was her favorite. Both were amazing! The burger… oh man. Talk about old fashioned smash burger. It came in a tortilla which I thought was such a cute touch. I haven’t found a place to mold their own hamburger meat in a long time. Everyone uses the pre made patties. This one was hand molded and cooked on flat top and thin…but still juicy! The building is old and full of character but very clean and well taken care of. The staff was 10/5 stars. Absolutely the sweetest people. Prices were extremely reasonable. Highly recommend. Has a small area for a truck or two to park to eat. Will definitely be back for another old fashioned hamburger when we roll through.

Clean.
Spacious.
Kid friendly.
Affordable on a budget.
Not very busy.

Arrived at 9:30 and was seated immediately. Waitress took our breakfast order by 9:38. Food arrived at 9:44. Waitress was polite and attentive.

We all ordered the corn beef hash. And a biscuit and gravy to share.

The eggs left something to be desired. But the corn beef, hash browns and toast was wonderful. The biscuits were soft and cooked just right. The gravy was a little bland but nothing a little table salt and pepper didn’t fix.

I’d eat here again.

Price in total: 39.87

We were driving through Santa Rosa and were hungry for breakfast. We found this place and were pleasantly surprised. My wife and I each ordered the pancakes and eggs. She ordered the ham and I chose the sausage. We shared an order of hash-brown. The meal and the service was outstanding. Very clean inside. Great old school diner experience. We highly recommend Sun & Sand Restaurant for breakfast.

Since I was kid, my grandfather and I always walked 6 blocks or more on Sundays after church to eat here. Hands down this is the best restaurant in New Mexico. The prices are reasonable, their food is always delicious and consistent, and the staff ensure you feel at home. A Route 66 staple (not many around anymore) that offers authentic American and New Mexico cuisine. If you are passing thru and can't decide where to go in Santa Rosa, and you're lucky enough to find them open, I'd say do yourself favor and stop here. I know all of the family and they are great people! The current waitstaff consists of a three generations of awesome women engrained in the restaurant industry. My favorite meals are the Cheeseburger and homemade fries, 2 rolled beef enchilada plate with red Chile, breakfast burrito smothered with red chili, two green chili relleno plate, chicken strip dinner and of course their two egg breakfast with hash browns and sausage. Thank you Sun N Sand for all the great years!

First time at this restaurant. Not many open for breakfast. I had an omelet with meat in it and salsa. I was happy with my breakfast and I had great ice tea. I took a chance on the restaurant and I'm glad. Good food and sevice.

I missed breakfast at my hotel so I went across the street to this little place. Great atmosphere, the food was very good, great selections. I had Huevos Rancheros.
I told my waitress, Jennifer, it was my birthday. Then after I was done eating she surprised me with a piece of peach pie with a candle in it. The other waitress told me Happy Birthday also as she went by. Jennifer hugged me on the way out and said Happy birthday again. The lady that checked me out talked with me and wished me safe travels. This place is a great little restaurant. ❤

I was finally back and
In my hometown for the weekend. I had to stop and eat at all of the restaurants that I grew up eating at in Santa Rosa. Sun and Sand was top on the list. I knew I loved their homemade french fries and just had to have them. We went in for breakfast and every one of us were pleased with our meals. I got eggs and hash browns with chopped grilled green chili for the eggs. The others had a breakfast burrito, pancakes, and the Jimmy special. Every dish was wonderful. The pancakes are the bomb. They are perfectly cooked. Hash browns are wonderful and crispy like you expect them. The red chili has a wonderful flavor. Their biscuits and gravy are scrumptious . We went in for lunch on Sunday so that I could get the homemade french fries. I never got my homemade french fries because on Sundays, they don't serve lunch. So, we ordered breakfast again and I got the same thing. On both days, the service was very friendly and very attentive . Both waitresses were great . We really loved Jennifer . She took our picture , she made us laugh and really took her time with us. We are just going to have to go back to Santa Rosa again and go to Sun and Sand for homemade french fries. You sure don't find homemade french fries at many restaurants and they cook them perfectly. When you're in Santa Rosa, New Mexico Sun and Sand is the place to eat..

They are only open for breakfast and lunch. Yummy food and classic diner ambiance. A good place to eat while checking out the Blue Hole on route 66.

Great breakfast, cool atmosphere, AND we were greeted by a fellow KC Chiefs fan! Oh, and ask for the homemade hot sauce, it's phenomenal.

I had breakfast here (2 pancakes/sausage/toast) and it was all delicious. I myself couldn't finish it all because it was a lot to eat. The staff was friendly and nice. It is worth stopping at for a bite to eat if you are in Santa Rosa, NM.
