We stopped in for dinner during a long road trip. The staff were kind and polite; they let us take a menu outside so we could figure out what to order, since we walked up with our dog. We didn’t wait long for our order. Everything was delicious! We had the tamales, enchiladas, spicy chips and salsa, and a slice of the peach pie. Would definitely eat here again!

Traveling and went by for supper. This is a family run business since 1927. The restaurant is on historic route 66 in Santa Rosa New Mexico. The menu has a variety of items listed; hamburgers, steak shrimp, fish, New Mexican ethnic food and pie. One wall has historic items. The food is very tasty. I did have to ask for a second glass of tea, otherwise I would not have recived one. The tea glass is small. They were all very friendly.

On our trip from CA to TN we stopped for fuel in Santa Rosa NM with not alot of options for food in this sleepy little town we came upon the Comet drive in ...we had our doubts by the look of the place but the reviews we good
and we were hungry ....
I took my chances on the chjle relleno special and a couple tacos....one of my go to"s in Mexican....keep in mind Johnny comet drive in....an ex tasty freeze looking place now doing Mexican by an 80 year old fellow whi still cooks and I was told by our rather unique waiter still prepared the chili's for this dish by hand himself...
I know this is getting long but this story needs to be told as we were blown away by the food in this place .
My dish was as a chili relleno expert making them myself....in the top two ever !!! My sons Burrito dish was as good the pork and potato green sauce was out of this world and the two tacos....which I ordered special with the carnitas and hand fried corn tortillas were just like home ....
We left the place just going WOW
Would of never know....but a place in our memories for sure ....five thumbs up for the Comet !

If I could give this place more stars I would. Everything is homemade and the taste is perfection! Fried zucchini with HOMEMADE ranch to start, the some green chili stew (we took some home to share later it was so good), to top it off with a slice of homemade apple pie fresh from the oven. I am stuffed, but I regret nothing. Staff is so friendly and if we lived closer we would go here all the time. Next time we travel on 40 we will make it a point to stop again. This is one of those hidden gems we all spend time trying to find. ✨

Whether you are making a pit stop off of I-40 or wanting to chow down after diving at the Blue Hole, this restaurant has a great selection of various food options while maintaining delicious New Mexican Specialty dishes. The staff is also friendly and attentive.

I have tasted their enchiladas and steak ranchero, both of which are packed with flavor with New Mexican red or green chilies.

Was passing by on my trip from California through the southwest and stopped here for dinner— not expecting such friendly staff and diner-style New Mexican eats! I got the enchilada with the famous NM chile sauce and it did not disappoint. My waitress was so engaging with me and told me all about the town’s history and interest points and finally came out with a DELICIOUS complementary pudding— I know it’s unlikely I’ll pass through again unless I drive through the southwest, but for any other travelers going through, this is the place to stop by!

This charming restaurant was a complete surprise. I wanted to have New Mexico Mexican food before we left the state. We had stopped in Santa Rosa on one our previous trips. The Blue Hole is there. If you haven't experienced it, it is a must stop. Divers from all over the world come to dive there. When Howard suggested this place, he called it a drive in, boy was he wrong. Theyvbrought chips and salsa to the table furst. The chips were light and fresh, the salsa very tasty. This is one of the best New Mexico restaurants I have had the pleasure to eat in. I ordered the chili relleno with chili Verde over it. It was really good. The chili Verde really made the whole dish. It was homemade hot and spicy. The beans were a little dry, but that in no way diminished the excellent flavors of New Mexico. Howard had a chicken flauta. It was tasty but he had a hard time with the spicy heat. They served a warm pudding flan. It was very very good. If you get the opportunity to eat in Santa Rosa New Mexico...stop here. You will thank me.

The food was great. The sauce was delicious and we were full but not overly. The waiter was super nice. We tried to stop at only route 66 restaurants on our way West. We didn't see this one right away but i am glad we kept driving and saw it.

Amazing food that is fresh and delicious. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. The service was excellent and the servers were so nice. We loved talking to the owner about his family and the restaurant’s history. The restaurant is family owned and has been in business for 90 years. This should be a stop on every traveler’s list. If we come back this way, we will definitely stop again.

Great place for unique New Mexico Mexican food! We got the enchiladas with green chilies and they were very good. They also have burgers and other options for those not wanting Mexican food.

Wait staff very friendly. Food was VERY good! Especially the Natillis custard that came with our meal choices. Hubby had steak fajitas and I had blue corn enchiladas with green sauce on the side and side of guacamole.

Stopped at Comet II on our drive, everyone was kind and the food was pretty good. I'm very picky about Mexican food and have nothing notably negative to say. They gave us a cute little desert for Christmas Eve! Thanks, Comet!

5 state police cars in the parking lot and a huge table of State Police eating as a group says this place is simply the best in the area. Very friendly staff. Quick service. Clean facilities. Spicy salsa with chips. Wife had Chicken Casadillas. I had Chicken Chimichanga both were good. Unexpected dessert as well.

Comet was my very first experience with New Mexico green hatch chiles and I fell in love. The blue corn enchiladas with green chile sauce were amazing. We stopped here for lunch on a Route 66 road trip. The interior had an old-school diner feel. The owner was mingling with locals. I would eat here again and would recommend stopping on your Route 66 trip.

Great choice for lunch, so glad I read the reviews and decided to stop. The food was great. The green chili verde was yum! The burrito and chimichonga were great too. And the complimentary custard dessert cup very interesting and creamy., Try it!

During a Stormy day in May we found our way into this very nice and open restaurants. Even though there were multiple other guest in the restaurant we were served very quickly and before we knew it we had water and nice appetizer chips in front of us.
The Entrees were very delicious and the best Mexican food we had until then. The portion size was very generous and we took some home with us for lunch next day.
Thank you for the food and the kindness.
