Absolutely beautiful airport to fly in to. Excellent runway, and the fuel is the cheapest around! All of that is great but the staff sends it over the edge. They are absolutely amazing and will do anything to help you. 10/10 look forward to flying here more.

Landed there today in an old Warrior and was greeted with chocks by friendly line staff. Sat in the lobby for a while and enjoyed a cup of coffee offered by staff as we planned the next leg of our flight. Really pretty scenery on the approach. Very pleasant visit.

Best Alternative for West Jefferson (KGEV) and Boone. Off the mountain, so weather is usually good. The ILS and GPS approaches are excellent. Service is excellent as well.

Was in town for the worst of circumstances...my dad’s funeral. After an exhaustive online and telephone search over numerous days prior to the trip for rental cars I gave up and called the FBO for advice or help in finding a ride to the hotel in Wilkesboro then to meet family for dinner when they arrived in town. I spoke with Jeff, a lineman, who was beyond helpful, sympathetic and understanding to the situation. (There is a nationwide rental car shortage) He offered the courtesy car up, stating the manager likes it to be back within an hour, but, if i could have it back by close, it would be no problem. (This airport is 20 miles from town, and unless you call Taco Bell for a to go order, you aren’t going to go into town for food and back within an hour, no matter who you are) I arrive the next day around 1:15p and Jeff walks out to the tie downs to greet me and helps carry my bags to the FBO. I ask for a top off, anytime within the next two days, no rush, just whenever they get a chance and I head out in the car around 2:10p. Around 6:40p I arrive back at the airport with the car after only driving 40 miles, and I have topped the tank with gas, (it was on a half tank when I left the airport) with a family member who was on their way to meet for dinner as well; I walk into the FBO, with a smile despite the circumstances, ready to thank Jeff from earlier for making the difficult day at least tolerable. But Instead, I get the distinct opportunity of meeting one of the most unsympathetic and rude airport staff members I have met in my 20+ years in aviation. I’d like to thank the manager, and I use that term loosely, Mr. Robert Goss for treating me like a teenager getting home past curfew, “WELLLL, SIX and a HALF HOURS LATER!” he taunts me, despite me having bought 25 gallons of 100LL; despite me having added half a tank of gas to their courtesy car; despite me having already worked out with another airport employee the details of me using the courtesy car. He goes on and on, even after I explain the situation and arrangement I had made previously, he continues with his attitude, “I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF ANY SUCH ARRANGEMENTS! YOU OWE ME TWENTY FIVE BUCKS!” Thank you, Mr. Robert Goss, for being the miserable human being you are, slowly killing off general aviation one encounter at a time. “Managers” like this guy are one of the biggest problems we face in GA. Power hungry, egotistical blow hards that think the title, “manager” means they’re better than the next guy. I pity the tenants at UKF. This airport is what it is because of its kind and courteous linemen who understand business and customer service. It’s in a great location and gets lots of corporate traffic, not because of Mr. Goss, but DESPITE Mr. Goss. Besides the manager with his poor attitude and ego, the experience at UKF was great.
