We visited on a very quiet, peaceful Sunday afternoon, late May 2022.
A very solemn place, also there is the vistor centre about a mile away ,it is also very interesting, and the staff excellent and helpful. A must for anybody interested in the Civil War.

Totally indescribable to the awe of what took place around the "place of Peace"...

The history that sits on this hallowed ground is full of interesting facts, tidbits. One can feel the gravity of the situation by stopping here on the their tour of the NPS battlefield.

Shiloh Battlefield and Church was a sobering and wonderful experience. You can drive through all of the battlefields. There are lots of plaques and monuments to read and look at. I highly recommend, at a minimum, a cursory review of the battle online to familiarize yourself with names and locations, such as The Peach Orchard and Pittsburgh Landing. It will make it more poignant. This location isn't just for history buffs - the beauty of the river, forests, and fields are well-worth checking out.

I hiked here for Boy Scouts in 2015. The museums are filled with artifacts and the battlegrounds are well maintained. My great-great-great-uncle was a soldier at this battle.

Ghost Story:
I was with my dad in the old Shiloh Church. We were the only ones inside. There was a woman outside but she never entered. So anyway, I snapped some pictures of the cool recreated church. I even posed by the alter. Well, 2 years later, I discovered a shadow of a man wearing a top hat. He was over my shoulder in the alter picture and a picture of the fireplace (below). It was noon so the sun wasn't shining in the church. Who is this man? Please tell me who this man is!

Please just go and watch the short movie shown before walking the battlefield. Tours and/or your car are available if walking is too much. One is moved by the grit, the courage, honor and blood that was shed on those fields so close to the little Shiloh church. The cemetery is quite moving.

The house of worship that ironically gave its name - "a place of peace" - to a major Civil War battle, the building itself was rebuilt with contemporary rough-hewn logs. Shiloh, or Pittsburg Landing, as the Confederates called it, was a confusing, see-saw, two-day engagement that cost almost 23,000 casualties. The church is at its core.

They actually still have services in the rock church beside the log church. If you're there just before 10AM on Sunday, you can stop in and have a listen. Great people there.

The Shiloh church at the Shiloh National Cemetery was awesome. The old church still stands and the area, to me, has a sense of calm.

The Seay farm cotton field, where the first shots were fired, belonged to my ancestors. They were dedicated Methodists, and certainly attended this church.

Attended Palm Sunday services today while visiting the park.
They made me feel very welcome and enjoyed the services
