Love the food here. Breakfast and lunch. Friendly staff they know your face and name when you walk in. The food is good and the place is clean. What more could you ask for. Had a burger and had to keep ordering more. Fries are great, they have curly and regular. Not to mention good dessert. Chicken fried steak is great, and love the eggs and hash.
I love it here. Probably the only good restaurant in Daingerfield.

Double meat burger and fries very good. No complaints. Excellent banana split. Bathrooms in clean condition; employees polite and knowledgeable. We definitely would eat there again when passing through town.

Great food, chicken strips and the homemade gravy were amazing. My daughters loved them. I had the old fashioned burger and chili dog, both were great. Staff were all very polite and helpful. We were the last customers of 2020 before they closed. Was a cool memory to have.

Merry Christmas to these girls running this place. Long trip and these girls were nice enough to let us in and serve us when they were trying to close.

Ordered the Chipotle bacon Burger was excellent. Service was excellent. And store was very clean. Would recommend eating here again. Warning the Chipotle burger is a tad bit spicy; but I love spicy hot.

Good food, clean restaurant, and courteous staff. We came in for dinner 20 minutes before they closed and the young lady who took our order was just as friendly as if we came in earlier in her shift and not right before they closed. The burger and fries are great. The grilled ham and cheese is good too, but could use a second slice of cheese.

A great place to eat. This use to be a Dairy Queen but separated from the franchise years ago. They have great tacos and burgers.

You have to eat here.

Please take a moment to understand why I recommend this place, despite what your first impressions of my review might be. It's been a little while since I've been here but I'll never forget this place.

This place is a converted 80s/90s Dairy Queen. Even their menu is a period DQ menu that has been taped/marked over. The shape of the sign outside, the building eaves, the seating, tables, and wall paneling, even the faded photos on the walls are ones they put in DQs of the day.

The food is all cheap. The burgers seem the best pick. The nachos are cheap circle tortilla chips coated with that 1-gallon-can cheese sauce and 1-gallon-plastic-tub of jalapenos. The steak fingers are bulk cafeteria food that has been re-dropped into the fry vat after thawing. The enchilada is a frozen burrito that has seen the same fry vat. The cups are the cheapest bulk styrofoam. The food is served on anywhere from the cheapest paper to cheapest styrofoam plates, if the dishes all get dirty.

The baseboards are stained, the bench seats are slightly discolored from use, the foam ceiling tiles all sag ever so slightly, the A/C vents are dusty.

This place is an American Diner. Not a chain styled to be like an American Diner. The menu promises everything and delivers on a couple things. This place was made to run and keep running, and to do most things good-enough. This is not a mathematically calculated food menu to maximize consumer buy-in with a pallet of frozen food unloaded every week. This is someone picking up from a costco or bulk-restaurant supplier, maybe even running and grabbing some meat/etc from the grocery store, because that's what's available and that's what they decided to work with.

When I was here, it was busy. People come here to sit and eat something simple and chat. I haven't seen a place like this in over a decade - a small-business-place that feels like it's being run to be an affordable restaurant and not the next gourmet burger/taco/pizza/etc joint. It feels like a person makes the business decisions and not a computer algorithm. It doesn't try to be fancy or hope you post about it on social media. If the owner reads this; don't renovate. You can clean up and make things sparkle, but don't renovate. Repair, don't replace. I hope you pay your employees well and treat them kindly.

This place is good for a simple bite to eat with a nice, no frills atmosphere. I worry there won't be places like this in 10 years time; just copy-paste McDonalds chains and $20 gourmet burger joints with 'cool bar' signage.

The restaurant was clean, the girl at the front was sweet , the cook did an awesome job, the French fries were crispy and the chicken fried steak was awesome to. I will come back. Thank you for a great family experience.

Long ago Sonic used to have the best grilled chicken salads, but then they did away with their salads. Since then I have yet to find a place that served salads as good as those, but FINALLY my search is over. This was my first time eating at Hawkins Family Restaurant in Daingerfield,TX, and seeing an image of their chicken salad online is what made me want to try them out. I ordered a grilled chicken salad with honey mustard dressing and, of course because I'm eating a healthy salad, I decided to order a chocolate shake as well. The chocolate shakes are delicious, but the salad, the salad brought back memories of those mouthwatering salads I used to get. The honey mustard sauce is perfection mixed with the grilled chicken and lettuce. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere is definitely geared towards families! I will definitely recommend Hawkins to all my family and friends in the area because I'm already wanting to go back an order another.

Looks of a DQ but better.
Had a fish sandwich and onion rings, was very good. Not greasy and freshly fried in good oil. 😋

Hawkins reminds me of the old-time restaurants. I normally always get the Old Fashion burger or fried chicken salad 🥗. Best part of my visit is the the popcorn Ice in the drinks! 😋

For a small town this little place was yummy. Burger was great. Bread very fresh and the French fries are AMAZING!!! If your looking for quick good meal, definitely try the burger and fries or even the steak finger basket. It's great as well. Good country gravy!! The tea could use some tweaking but overall good job!!!

This place is great! The food is real food cooked by real people. It’s called Hawkins Family Restaurant because it’s a restaurant that’s been open, and ran by the same family, for 55 years.
It’s not DQ. It’s not fast food.
The staff are always nice when I go there. And the very best burger on the menu is the old fashioned.
