Ok, hear me out. Chicken is chicken, right? Wrong! Some chicken is meh, and some chicken is outstanding. The Pickett House serves an exceptional kind. Family-style platter service is a unique concept, and we loved it.

A coworker recommended Pickett House at a wood products mill 1/2 hour away. I figured it must be good if folks travel to eat here. They were right.

If you’re close to Woodville, Texas, stop in. You’ll enjoy it as well—simple, country dining where the food is the star.

My friend and I drive forever away to have fried chicken. It's all you can eat family style place. We ate the first round of perfectly salty chicken, turnips, potatoes, black eye peas, dumplings, with biscuits and cornbread. That would have satisfied normal men but we are not sort of those people. We finished round two, and then a third round..... before having a cute cup of peach cobbler.
Think we ended up eating 2 whole chickens and a dozen or more biscuits with strap syrup.

Just the best fried chicken ever! We live about an hour and a half from this place, yet we have lunch here about once a month. It’s worth the drive! The food and service is consistently excellent. The food (fried chicken! That’s it!) is served boarding house style. You go to the cashier, order, pay and get your own drinks and silverware. Tables are long with bench seats. Almost immediately after sitting, a cart will arrive with your chicken and sides. Beans, chicken & dumplings, mashed potatoes & gravy, and biscuits. Plus you can have coleslaw, pickled beets, and jalapeños at no additional cost. It’s all you can eat, and includes peach cobbler for dessert! When you’re finished you take all your plates up to the window where the kitchen will retrieve them. The interior is super cute, with a fabulous collection of vintage circus posters. The place is on the grounds of a recreated turn of the century lumber town, with a museum and hiking trails.

If you're looking for a great home cooked meal this is the right place. I do have to warn you if you've never lived in the country you might not appreciate it. This is like taking a step back in time. When you walk in you'll pay for your meal n then your waitress will seat you at a long table with bench seats. There's no menu n you get your on beverage. They bring out the food n put it all on the table. Fried chicken,
chicken & dumplings, mashed potatoes w/gravy, greens, coleslaw, beans, cornbread & biscuits, etc.
If you run out of something just ask n they'll bring you more.
This reminds me of my grandmother n grandfather's farm. She would cook all morning, set everything on the table n yell out the kitchen window it was time to eat.

Excellent food, great service, cute place! I highly recommend. We were passing through and found this place for lunch and it was a delicious, unique experience. There is only one meal:
Fried chicken - some of the best I've ever eaten
Green beans - definitely the best I've ever eaten
Chicken and dumplings - I've never liked these, but as far as they go, those were good
Biscuits and cornbread - like Cracker Barrell, but somehow even better
Mashed potatoes with brown gravy - so good
Collard greens - not a huge fan, but they were good enough that if I had enough room, I'd eat them all
Peach cobbler - one of the best I've ever eaten
You pay when you come in, get your drink and silverware, and sit down. The drink choices are sweet and unsweetened tea, and lemonade, and water. The tea was excellent as well - just strong enough. I'm picky about tea, but it was the right sweetness level as well.
You sit down and they bring the food to you on a cart. Another important fact: this delicious meal is ALL YOU CAN EAT!!! So the only limit to this delicious dinner is the size of your stomach, which unfortunately, meant for us that it ended a lot faster than I wished.
If you are able to eat here - DO IT.

Very unique place. Family atmosphere. They have a simple menu but the food is very well made. For the first time I enjoyed dumplins. The peach cobbler was exceptional. Beautiful trails right on the other side of the parking that you can walk after eating.

Heidi and another young gentleman took great care of us! I will say I am from Woodville and I haven't ate here since I was 15 years old. It's has so much history all in one visit. The food is incredible and it was well worth the drive. It's a famous spot visitors come from near and far. I got the chance to mark it off my Bucket List. Heidi just want to tell you Thank You for 22 years of service and keep up the amazing service. It's a must on my Oh The Places I want you to go List follow me for our next adventure.

This place. I was told it was all you can eat fried chicken and this place delivers with that statement. It is hands down one of the best places I have eaten at. The service is amazing. The food excellent. It’s a home country style place to eat and I loved every moment of it. Ps save room for desert. It is the best peach cobbler I have had in a very long time. 20/10 will come back when I roll through town again.

We enjoyed lunch at Pickett House... Not crowded, pleasant helpers, and the food was good! Plus they retrieved us from the airport (Tyler County) and returned us when we were done. Can't beat that!

Just the best experience! This is the place to go for an amazing step back in time. Way back! This restaurant is set up old school. You dine family stile with all you can eat souther fried chicken with all the dozens and sides to boot. You get your own drinks and cutlery. When you have had your fill on the amazing meal they bring out peach cobbler. When you are finished enjoying the amazing meal, you take your dishes to the kitchen. Just how they would do it back in the day. After all that amazing food. I would HIGHLY recommend walking through the out door museum that is connected to the Pickett house. It’s set up like an old tiny 1800’s township.

If you ever find yourself in Woodville, TX...check out, The Pickett House. It's a no frills, boarding house style eatery. Everything is served family style and you eat as much as your belly can hold! Peach cobbler included at the end of the meal! What you see is what you get. No menu at this place. Best comfort food I've EVER eaten! Lots of fun artifacts around the place too and a little village you can tour as well! 💕

I had not been in several years. It was just as amazing as it was before! I loved the fried chicken, the mashed potatoes were real potatoes, gravy was yummy, I don’t like black eyed peas but those changed my mind, I had 2 helpings! Chicken and dumplings melt in your mouth delicious! Biscuits and cornbread so good. Peach cobbler excellent just the right tang to it. The service was the BEST! They came by at least 10 times and asked if we wanted more! Also, I love the atmosphere, old home cooking and don’t forget get to take your dishes to the kitchen. I will be back, this may have to be a once a month thing for me!

An extreme pleasant experience for a quaint Historic Site that's very unique. The whole ambience is very pleasant. it is a must Eatery if you're even remotely close within 8 hour drive. Old school boarding house style restaurant were you eat what served.

This is the second time I've visited this place, and it is even better than before. They have taken common historical elements from nearby towns to build a village as it would have been in it's own time. When you visit, come hungry, because you'll want to eat a meal at the Pickett House Restaurant next door. The restaurant serves biscuits, cornbread, mashed potatoes and gravy, turnip greens, pinto beans, and fried chicken, prepared in much the same way as long ago.
