On my trip along the Oregon National Trail, Chimney Rock was a major landmark for the settlers. The Museum is small and there is a small admission fee. While I was there, we looked through the binoculars and saw Elkhorn sheep on the Rock. Awesome!

Beautiful walk to the Chimney Rock! It's an interesting site! We spotted a prairie dog and a bird that we later identified as a Meadowlark! We ended up not going through the museum as our interest was more for the rock formation than the Oregon Trail info provided in the museum.

The trails behind the museum were great! Very wide and well maintained. Dogs are allowed on leash. No shade, take water and watch for rattlesnakes. Chimney Rock is cool!

I loved this museum! It taught me so much about the history of the Native Americans of the area and the Oregon Trail. I also think that the interactive portions of the exhibit are some of the best I've seen in a small museum. Even the bathroom stalls were informative! Some other reviews say the ticket price was too expensive but I think it's well worth the money. After visiting the museum you can head further down the road to get a better view of Chimney Rock!

It was an interesting place to visit, they have a museum and a gift shop.

We only visited the gift shop as it was near closing and we didn't want to pay $8 each for the museum. No senior discounts. National Park Pass not honored. This site is run by the state. Open till 5:00, but their web site states 4:00.

Very nice view of Chimney from here. Gift shop has a nice selection of books and shirts to choose from.

This was a great place to stop. The museum is about one mile off the road and it's privately owned and they've done a beautiful job of providing history of the west (pioneers, native Americans, etc.) Great place for kids, there are some activities to keep them busy. It does cost to view their small museum but well worth it. I think it may have been $16? If you didn't want to visit the museum, you still had access to the gift shop without an entrance fee, Then step out back and take closer pictures of Chimney Top. Clean facilities, no food or drink that I saw.

I almost kept driving west on I-80, but I'm glad I saw the billboards for this landmark and took the detour to visit. The museum has a great selection of exhibits and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. There's an outdoor patio behind the museum that's perfect for taking photos of Chimney Rock. They also have a nice little gift shop with a good selection of souvenirs.

Beautiful museum. Great displays. Plenty of room to move around and great lighting on all the well explained displays. Great gift shop. Good selection of paperback books explaining Nebraska history.

This was a much nicer stop than we were expecting. You do have to pay to get into the museum part, $8 a person. Which was a bit steep. However the museum is small but very nice. There is a lot of history and some hands on activities. We ended up enjoying it allot more than we expected. We spend maybe 30 or 40 minutes here. There's also a little gift shop. I would recommend it if you are interested in history about the Oregon trail.

Cool site. You can skip the visitors center if you read about the place online. They have a short video and ask for ~$3 fee to watch it. No fee to see the rock and it has hiking trails around it. If you have more time, watch the videos. They don't allow dogs inside so not worth it for people traveling with pets. Warning: rattle snakes everywhere. (We didn't see any)

I’ll be honest: I didn’t think I was going to get too excited about a tall pointy rock, but Chimney Rock is spectacular. The rock is quite beautiful and you can see what an incredible landmark it would have been for early settlers headed West. The museum offers high quality informative exhibits (as well as a cute interactive wagon for kids) and the short 20-minute movie offers a great history of the rock and surrounding area. Highly recommend!

Out of the way to get to, but if you love history it's well worth the time to go.
Small museum, but lots of information.
Don't go walking around in the grass, Rattlers can be anywhere. You cannot get close to Chimney Rock, so plan on using a good telephoto lens.
Dogs are not allowed in the building and there is NO shade to park under, so if you have your dog with you, try to go on a cooler day. Cost is not bad, $3.00.

Very nice location. Worth a visit if you're around that area. We drove specially to visit this place as it's picture is imprinted on a quarter. Felt very special to be here. The visitor center was closed for renovation. Chimney rock looks extra beautiful around sunset so evening will be a great time to visit (may be the mornings too if the views are interesting that time) However be very careful at this place because there's rattlesnakes warning everywhere around this area. We got out of our car for very little time took pictures and quickly came inside as we didn't want to take any risk (also because it was evening time) The surroundings are really gorgeous too. We even got to witness the most colorful and unforgettable sunset. The sky colors were glowing. A must visit place overall. Thanks.

Pleasantly surprised with the quality and interactive Ed’s with this museum. Lots of information on the Oregon trail and struggles of settlers. The best part of the museum was being able to fill up the interactive covered wagon with goods and supplies. Lots of fun

The museum was closed. If you stop at the historical marker, it has a very good description

Okay dude straight up! This was amazing! Especially considering the huge amount of history that this chuck of land contains. I loved it. It's sad though if you read what happened and think about all the lives lost it's hard not to feel bad for a lot of these humans who lost their lives trying to make to this rock. The world is harsh but being about to view something as great as this makes me appreciate the life I'm able to love today. If you're anywhere near here I promise you paying a visit is well worth it.
