The Grand Hacienda Luxury Inn with Gourmet Breakfast

It is impossible to describe this unique and beautiful place. We had the best stay. The location and views are breathtaking, with nearby hikes or walks if desired. So much care is taken in every detail to create a luxurious experience. The beds are so comfortable, and the rooms have beautiful views out every window and a personal patio for lounging and star gazing. I love their healthy focus, from shower products, to minimal EMF, to the amazing gourmet breakfasts with produce they have grown or obtained locally. Carolyn and Tom have elevated breakfast to an art form, and are just the most wonderful hosts. We plan to return every year.

You know you've been to a special place when it's two months later and you still can't stop thinking or talking about it. Carolyn and Tom have created something unique and wonderful in Abiquiu. The rooms are beautifully designed and beyond comfortable, the food was healthy and delicious and prepared with love, and the ambiance was welcoming and relaxing from the moment we arrived. We hoped this would be a special place and we were not disappointed. If we could give it 10 stars, we would!

Carolyn and Tom are wonderful hosts it feels like they are welcoming you to their home as old friends.
The rooms were very comfortable, spacious and clean. Views that go on for days. Quiet like I have never experienced.
Dinner and breakfast were so tasty with such attention to every little detail.
Would highly recommend.

Returning to the Grand Hacienda for the 4th time felt like coming home. Actually the incredible location, hospitality from our hosts Tom and Carolyn and amazing gourmet meals made it better than home.
This is the perfect spot to relax, meet other interesting guests and some of the best hikes I have ever had.
We will be back soon.

Thank you Tom and Carolyn for providing a truly special retreat. The remote austere beauty of the Grand Hacienda's location is breathtaking. Our breakfast was delicious. Certainly, one of the highlights was the conversations with the other guests and Tom and Carolyn. We are sorry we only spent one night and hope to return for a longer stay.

I tried to leave a much more detailed review but it was too long.

Let me just say that Grand Hacienda hosts Carolyn and Tom are not only fantastic hosts,
they are warm, caring and compassionate people.

At 5 pm, my husband and I were an hour away from the GH when our rental car got a flat tire. No spare!

We talked with the rental car agent about getting a replacement tire, buying a tire, etc.

They said, “No… a tow truck has to come get you and drive you BACK to ALBUQUERQUE to exchange vehicles.”

!!!!!

That whole process would have put us back at the GH in the wee hours.

We called Tom and Carolyn at the Grand Hacienda to explain our situation.

Grand Hacienda host Tom said, “I’ll come get you.”

At first we said No!

Then my husband and I realized it was the logical thing to do.

So Tom drove and hour from GH, picked us up, drove us back an hour TO GH!

Carolyn greeted us calmly and warmly and made us feel at home. She showed us our big, comfy, well decorated “Georgia O’Keeffe Suite.”

It was so late but Carolyn said,
“We’ll have dinner ready for you at 8:15.”

She had prepared a lovely, scrumptious and healthy dinner for us WAY after the usual time!

We were very shaken by our flat tire event… two pitbulls BIT through our tire when we were stopped by a rural house! Serious!

Carolyn and Tom were so compassionate about our scare/predicament.

Tom and Carolyn are trained chefs.They can create delicious meals for your specific dietary needs. Carolyn remembered I was a vegetarian and my husband can’t eat dairy products.
She prepared a lovely multi-course dinner with so much attention to tiny culinary details.
We ate and had some wine. We started to decompress.

Soon after dinner, we went to bed. We had the best night’s sleep we had had in days. It was sooooo quiet and cozy!

The next morning, we woke up and pulled back the curtains. We were surrounded by gorgeous landscapes in every direction. Morning sun reflecting on the lake, mountains, hills dotted with cedars… spectacular!

Carolyn and Tom prepared a delicious and healthy breakfast with so much attention to detail. Crepes, a refreshing small salad, fresh fruit and hot coffee beverages (cappuccinos, etc), a yummy fresh juice beverage.

Unfortunately we had to leave early to deal with the whole tow truck situation.

Know that when you come to the Grand Hacienda, your every need will be taken care of by Tom & Carolyn.

They want you to experience the beauty of the area, to decompress and enjoy a healthy and revitalizing stay.

You will find breathtaking landscapes,
interesting grounds with southwest decor,
a cozy/comfy/quiet room, a viewing roof, a wine list, games, a lake for recreation, hills for hiking, a reading area with books and a fireplace.

Best of all, you will meet Carolyn and Tom!

Stayed 3 nights in Abiquiu Lake Suite and already dreaming up ways to get back soon. Some key highlights:
* Views - stunning sunrises, daytime and night sky views from the rooms. Amazing sunsets from the rooftop deck.
* Room - Very comfortable bed, indoor chairs, and patio chairs. Nice bathroom. Everything spotless. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout.
* Breakfast - amazing 3 course meal filled served as you’re looking out over the lake. To give an idea of how insane these breakfasts are - one morning the third course was a roasted veggie & cheese omelet served with crispy potatoes and three different types of homemade sausage. My favorite dish was a grilled pineapple blue corn pancake with homemade coconut syrup.
* Dinner - the bbq pork ribs were served with a salad, a veggie and a baked potato. Everything delicious. Highly recommend adding dinner.
* Wine - we had a lovely 2012 Zin with our dinner. The wine list was really well done and very reasonably priced.
* Hosts - Carolyn and Tom are amazing hosts and really think of everything. Lots of great recommendations curated to what we wanted to do. We completed two amazing hikes plus had a great day fly fishing with Land of Enchantment guides per Carolyn’s recommendation. So glad I just listened to her instead of trying to figure it out on my own!

A truly luxurious retreat high above the majestic Abiquiu Lake and stunning 360 degree views from every corner of the property. Pedernal Mountain, featured in so many O'Keeffe paintings, was my view every morning while enjoying coffee on my patio. The serene quiet, with only the wind blowing through the grasses and small birds chirping, was especially wonderful! Not to mention the vast night sky with its millions of stars to enjoy. I treasured every minute of my stay at The Grand Hacienda...from the decadent, flavorful, fresh and oh-so-creative meals they served, to the luxurious bedding and linens, to the warm conversations we enjoyed with our hosts, I felt like a queen during my time there. It's an experience I will never, ever forget. Thank you, Tom and Carolyn, for going above and beyond and creating this oasis for the soul in the Land of Enchantment. I hope to return again and again.

Grand Hacienda was hands down the best B&B we’ve ever stayed at. One of the most peaceful places my wife and I have been. Within two hours of arriving, we fell in love with the place so much we cancelled our next hotel and added a night at the Grand Hacienda! The property is on top of a mesa by itself and looks out for miles around at the lake, red rock cliffs and stunning mountains all around. Carolyn and Tom were amazing hosts, and take care to make sure everyone’s stay is nothing less than perfect. The three course breakfasts they serve are out of this world and we looked forward to them each day. We feel like we gained friends in Carolyn and Tom and have recommended it to our friends and family. We can’t wait to go back!

Where do I begin? Five stars just don’t do the justice for the hearts and souls of the owner, Carolyn and Tom, I would give the Milky Way above the Hacienda! It’s like an endearing love story, it began as soon as you turned into a winding gravel road from the main road. We just kept guessing which one is it and we were awe inspiring when we drove to the top . And the most heart warming smile came from the wooden gate , like an old friend from many lifetimes ago welcoming us. Our hearts melted. The view, the fresh herb garden, and classically appointed room just beyond our expectations! The gracious hosts offered us to dine with the most pleasant and warm couple for dinner even though we didn’t book it in advance and what a dinner it was! The breakfast was beyond any expectations! Layers of sophisticated, refined, and well balanced flavor coming from freshly picked herbs from organic garden! Words just can’t describe so I will attach pictures! Just can’t thank Carolyn and Tom enough for the wonderful and heart warming experience in a one short stay. Thank you so much Wendy and Chris! Y’all made our stay extra special!

The Grand Hacienda exceeded our expectations. Carolyn and Tom were incredibly welcoming and available when we arrived, introducing us to the other guests staying there. Then, the BBQ dinner they prepared for us was unbelievably delicious. We enjoyed eating in the great room, with a spectacular view of Lake Abiquiu. Later, we took a hot tub under the stars. Our room was very comfortable, well sized and had great views as well. The remote location is a bonus, as one feels very much off the beaten track. Yet, they also had good wifi. Breakfast was delicious too, three courses! We loved our stay here. Thank you, Carolyn and Tom!

This bed and breakfast was absolutely amazing. It was our first time at a B&B and I don't think I want to try any others because the bar has now been set so high. The location is very remote but once we arrived we didn't want to leave. The room, the amenities and the views would have been enough to keep us satisfied. But then Carolyn and Tom, who are such fabulous hosts, prepared absolutely wonderful meals (breakfast for the stay and then we opted to purchase a dinner add-on). This will be on our list of places to return to as often as we can because it was a peaceful stay. The private property includes trails to reach Abiquiu Lake where we were able to take in the sights and relax but there were options to kayak or swim or fish as well. We also met other wonderful couples during our short stay that contributed to a wonderful time. The Grand Hacienda is a great way to appreciate the Land of Enchantment.

Wow!! What a wonderful stay at the Grand Hacienda - clearly the highlight of our trip to New Mexico! A beautiful and remote piece of paradise with awe-inspiring vistas overlooking the Ghost Ranch and Lake Abiquiu. Only to be matched by our fantastic hosts Carolyn and Tom. Carolyn and Tom made our group of 3 couples immediately feel comfortable and at home. They left no detail unturned - from the uniqueness and quality of their beautiful hacienda, to their wonderful hospitality. And as an added bonus - they are both excellent cooks - serving unique and absolutely delicious 5-star breakfasts and dinners. We loved everything so much we cancelled some of our previous plans and extended our stay!

Absolutely amazing! The accommodations, service and food are all second to none. Our stay here was a magical and unforgettable experience. The Grand Hacienda location has one of the best views in the world. Carolyn and Tom are fantastic hosts, providing spectacular service from the time of booking throughout the entire stay. It was a pleasure getting to know both of them. I will certainly be back. I give it my highest recommendation, a stay at the Grand Hacienda is a truly unique and amazing luxury experience.

My husband and I visited the Grand Hacienda the beginning of May. I had never really been out West and chose our New Mexico vacation based upon finding the Grand Hacienda after a little research. This place IS a destination in itself! We could not have asked for anything more and were in complete awe of our surroundings. This was the most remote, calm, serene and naturally beautiful place we have ever been. Everything was perfect from our room, the five star three coarse breakfasts, catered dinners and excellent recommendations on the top things to do in the area. Carolyn and Tom were so kind, accommodating and all around just wonderful people who truly care about their guests. My husband still keep asking me, “where did you find that place, it was unreal!?” Part of me wants to keep it to myself and not tell anyone, but basically I have told anyone who will listen upon returning. Go visit the Grand Hacienda and Carolyn and Tom, you won’t be disappointed!

P.S- I wont mention names but one night we went out to dinner to a James Beard award winning restaurant- which was excellent but honestly Carolyn’s desserts were better- just sayin😊

This was a truly an amazing stay at Grand Hacienda. We felt instantly welcomed by Carolyn and Tom and were in awe of the amazing vistas. The remote roads we travelled to reach this oasis just built the anticipation to the breathtaking views. Breakfasts were off the charts. Be sure to sign up for the dinners as they would rival any major restaurant in the Santa Fe area. You could see the care and pride that Tom and Carolyn invest in every detail. It has been the true highlight of our New Mexico experience. We ended up extending our stay because it was just that darn good.

All the superlative reviews you read about Grand Hacienda are true and richly deserved. Its location is magnificent, overlooking Abiquiu Lake with 360 degree views of the richly but subtly coloured surrounding mountains.
As you enter the large courtyard, you will feel a wonderful sense of peace, tranquility and luxury. As you look around, you’ll appreciate the quality of materials and the great care and attention with which Carolyn & Tom have created GH.
Our room was beautifully appointed. Lovely views, well furnished, luxurious bathroom and a lovely patio where we spent time just relaxing, reading and gazing at the views.
The day begins with a wonderful cooked breakfast. Tom and Carolyn use many ingredients to grown on their greenhouse.
“Breakfast” doesn’t do justice to the soufflés and other dishes they deliver. We also ate excellent dinners every night too. Yum.
We loved just spending time on the magnificent patio which opens out from the Great Room, sipping a glass of wine - GH has a very good wine list- appreciating the views and the silence of the mountains. We also used the Hot Tub twice at night. Magic.
I am a long-standing yoga practitioner. Practising yoga early each morning of our 4 night stay on the large patio was quite simply the best place I have ever practised.
But above and beyond all the beauty of GH, its environment and the fabulous food, is the care, attention to detail and the love which Carolyn & Tom inject into the experience to make your stay so memorable. Nothing is too much trouble.
We also met some lovely fellow guests during our stay and it was obvious that they felt the same.
If you can tear yourself alway from GH, there are many great places to visit. We spent a memorable day doing a walking tour ‘In the footsteps of Georgia O’Keeffe’ at Ghost Ranch Inn (Friday mornings only), followed by a fascinating visit to her nearby studio on Abiquiu.

Absolutely one of the very best holidays we've enjoyed anywhere in the world! The expansive views are spectacular and certainly unforgettable. The hacienda is fabulous from the entry gate to the placement of the hot tub- where you feel as though the stars are resting on your shoulders... dreamy! The Abiquiu Lake Suite was beautifully appointed and luxurious. and allowed perfect viewing of the moon rising and sunrises from our pillows! The dining room brings the outdoors in (those views!!) and is the perfect place to enjoy the sumptuous breakfasts and dinners! The food alone would be worth the visit! They do a fantastic breakfast potato dish that has left us wishing for more! The only thing that tops all of that is Carolyn & Tom! We so enjoyed every moment of their company. They are respectful and knowledgeable about the land, culture, and people, and committed to the care and preservation of this sacred land. An unforgettable experience to say the least!

What an absolutely awesome find!! We live in Santa Fe and were looking for a quick honeymoon get-away when booking The Grand Hacienda Estate. Upon arrival you soon notice this property is over the top as far as beauty, functionality, hospitality and comfort. Our suite was filled with sweet treats for us to celebrate our wedding night. The views are world class when sitting in the Grand Room or patio overlooking Lake Abiquiu. Some how 5 stars just do not seem enough. Carolyn and Tom are the most gracious hosts, presenting wonderful gourmet breakfasts and informing us of the area history. They have every detail perfected for their guests and you will find they truly enjoy providing elite service for their guests.
We scheduled back to back massages with Marie who performed fabulous massaged right in our room. The Rio Chama suite is a comfortably as it is beautiful. We took a peak into the other suites and they are all really upscale so we rebooked for October. So excited to be going back- best rest we have had an a long time. Seriously, these view compare to high profile locations on this beautiful earth.

Our stay at The Grand Hacienda was nothing short of amazing! The adventure starts right when you book your stay and you get the directions to your private oasis off of the beaten path. Just finding it was a blast. The hosts Carolyn and Tom are both amazing, and have spared no attention to detail at their bed and breakfast. They are great people to talk to, and they are more than accommodating. My wife and I went there for our ten year anniversary, and we plan on going back in the future. We took full advantage of all there is to do and see during our visit. We did horse back riding through Ghost Ranch, which was educational, and overall entertaining. We rented kayaks to spend a day on the secluded lake with incredible views in every direction. We sat in the hot tub with glasses of wine, and looked at all of the beautiful landscapes as far as the eye can see. The food was incredible! I cannot stress this enough. All fresh ingredients prepared daily. Also I highly recommend you ask the hosts for recommendations on hikes. They gave us one that showed us views unlike anything else that we have ever seen, and we are well travelled. My only regret is that we didn’t have more days and nights booked. We will not make the same mistake next time.
