Enjoyed this little piece of history. Lincoln NM preserved mostly as it would have appeared in the 1880s. Lincoln County War, the Regulators, and Billy the Kid history here. Start at the visitors center and pay the small fee (happened to be a free day when we were here), tour the museum there, then walk through town with your map (your ticket into the open buildings) and enjoy. The old Lincoln Co courthouse with descriptions of Billy's escape at the locations within. Tunstall Store essentially as it was with authentic displays and merchandise. Most of the buildings appear as they did historically. Nice people manning the displays too. There is even a small brewery in the middle of town with great craft beers. Again in a mostly authentic looking building with outside seating and a small good truck.

Great museum and fascinating overarching history of the region, not just "Billy the Kid". Encompasses most of the buildings in town, living examples of the same historic buildings that were there during its time of turmoil. Town closes at 4pm, highly recommended getting there early and check open times and dates on webpage.

I really enjoyed visiting Lincoln. I walked the entire town visiting all the historical buildings. I had no idea that the Masons still get together once a year and women are not allowed. It's those secret meetings where conspiracies are created. Hah.

A must see if you are anywhere close! This historic district has buildings (and ruins) from the late 1800's. You also can walk Billy the Kids life and last days. It was very educational while being exciting at the same time. My kids (12 & 15) enjoyed it a lot (and didn't realize they were learning 😂).

What a rich display or history! From a historic museum to an art gallery, general store, church, and courthouse, this walking tour is worth every penny. The locals here are so friendly, and it is easy to see why this historic town popped up here.

I really enjoyed the museum located here showing the history of the town and the locals as well as encounters with Apaches in the area. There is a lot of good information on the Lincoln County Wars, so I would highly recommend stopping here and doing some reading before touring the town structures. This is also where you pay your admission fee of $5.00 to grant access to various structures in the town that are open to the public.

Great place to learn about history of wild west and the culture of New Mexico, Lincoln. They have an informative museum with a great movie( best to watch before walking around!!!) walking around the place after getting to know the hard facts of the war that cumulated in the city around Billy the kid, made us understand the history a bit better. Makes you wonder. And makes you enjoy the historic artifacts :) You can see some original objects from that era.
The town is really empty, only 2-3 families still live there.

It shows the true perspective of the town that played such a large role in the development of New Mexico that Hollywood failed to show. The trip to and exploring the town is well worth ones time.

Beautiful little place. Its Corona season so everything was closed but we enjoyed the walking paths and viewing all historical sites from a distance. Hope to enjoy Bill The Kid Day in the future once the world opens back up!

Billy the Kid was framed!! Learn about his true story and the Lincoln County war by visiting the museums in Lincoln, NM along the Billy the Kid Scenic byway. A must stop. Also, if you get a chance, talk with Oliver (Regional Manager, Historian, PhD, and walking encyclopedia) either at the Fort Stanton or Lincoln Historic site. His wealth of knowledge is very impressive.

Great place to visit. Lots of history. Many historical buildings and sights. We went there for a long week-end and explored the region. The history of the area is fascinating. The buildings are in good shape and a pleasure to visit. We did witness a shoot out reenactment while we were there. There are not many places to eat though, but you can get a decent lunch while visiting.

I had no problems with the employees. It was a lovely morning and I spent a good amount of time just wandering. If you get a chance go across the street to Annie's -- enjoy a beverage and conversation.

If you are a old West Fan this is a must
Most of the original buildings are still here
With a majority well preserved
Many of the structures allow you to walk in and view the exhibits on your own
The walk around this little village is about a mile of walking with another short stroll along the Rio Bonito creek
Well worth the visit
