Beautiful place to stop! Loved the hiking trail, dogs thought it was fantastic and my boys loved looking for arrowheads! Looking forward to going back sometime with the camper and having more time there.

Came on a Thursday and rented cabin 2. Very beautiful park with a well maintained beach...kids loved it. The cabin was very clean and grounds well maintained. My kids also enjoyed the playground. Make sure to visit the historic Luce cabin and family cemetery when you visit cool place to check out.

Great Park. The sites are spacious and the park was quiet while we were there. Swimming areas with small beachs. Very good for evening walks to watch the sunset 😊 We have a 26' 5th wheel and had lots of room. There were a lot of big rigs there. I would recommend this Park.

We really enjoyed tent camping at Lake Herman. We chose to go midweek and we practically had the park to ourselves. The camp host was super friendly and helpful. We didn't know they had kayak and canoe rentals so that was an added bonus to the swimming, biking, hiking and campfire cooking. There are two spots that are tent only. They basically share the same ridge so I would suggest taking both. I think if it's busy, they won't be as private as some campgrounds have their tent spots but they have a nice view and are walking distance from showers, beach and playground!

We’ll maintained trails and lots of wildlife to see. They also have a cool cabin and cemetery that is nice to see and read some of the South Dakota history.

I feel lucky to live so close to Lake Herman State Park. The park is beautiful, with a diversity of wildlife. Also, the park is well-maintained.

We recently had a bad windstorm in the Madison area, which took out a lot of trees. The workers at the park worked tirelessly to get the park back open. I went on a hike, and I could see the great work they did in cleaning up the park.

I have also, a few other times, stayed in the cabins for a couple of nights. The cabins were clean. I love that there is a heater/air conditioner in every cabin.

The restrooms have always been clean every time I've been in there.

Another really cool thing about the park is that there are worship services held outside in a little amphitheater in the park on Sunday mornings. It's an amazing atmosphere in which to worship.

This park is not too busy. It's easy to find a quiet place in the park, where you may encounter wildlife.

I highly recommend visiting this park.

Awesome warning before the storm moved in while we were there. Park Ranger Robin did an excellent job keeping people safe! We stayed in the cabins and they were clean and definitely worth the price! Pioneer Day was a neat experience.

This campground exceeded expectations. We booked in advance and found the most beautiful spot right on the water. Everything about this place was great. The facilities were much cleaner than most camp grounds I’ve been to, staff was very friendly, campground was quiet. Rentals for kayak and canoe, small beach swimming area. Stellar sunsets/sunrises. We wish we’d had more time here, the views of the lake are simply breath taking.

We stayed one night and deeply regretted it BECAUSE it was so wonderful. I can't remember what site we booked, but we had a corner spot that had a huge grassy area and a small beach. There was a trail that was between us and the beach, but very few people walked along the trail while we were there. We had great cell service with Verizon that allowed us to work remote. The host was very nice. Firewood was available for self-service purchase. The lakes were gorgeous. Bathrooms were warm and clean. It was very quiet and nicely manicured. The nearby town has great food. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stay there again. I might even go out of my way to stay there again.

Camped overnight at Lake Herman State Park. We should've stayed for a week! It was great. Quiet, peaceful, and lots of wildlife to enjoy. The park rangers were very friendly and helpful. The restrooms were kept clean and were very nice facilities for a campground.

I would suggest packing your own food as the little town nearby didn't offer many things, and we didn't love that place we did eat at.

Also be sure the watch for the entrance road! It's on a turn and is a little tricky if you're caught in traffic. But once you've seen it, you'll remember it.

One of the nicest State Parks I have been through! Besides the nature being so beautiful, it is well kept. They have a swimming beach that is large enough for several people to partake in. Then across from the lower camping grounds, there is another swimming beach. I actually find that one to the better of the two. Another attraction is the Herman Luce cabin that shows how the pioneers lived before all the amenities of today was developed. Plus there are walking trails that go on for miles. If you enjoy exercise, this park has it all for you.

SD state park with an awesome trail system and a great view of the lake and slough. It's interesting how the slough is in the middle of the peninsula. The park's elevation above the lake makes for some great views, especially on the eastern edge of the park. Comparable to Oakwood Lakes, difference is there is only one lake here, no island trail, and less trails. Views are better here though.
