HWY 38 Towing & Repair

This is to thank Lane from Highway 38 Towing, of Mitchell South Dakota, for assisting us when we were stranded after midnight.

Lane is extremely knowledgeable, and was detailed in his examination to identify the issue. Once the issue was resolved, he performed additional analysis to ensure that the vehicle was fully operational.

Breaking down in Freeman SD on a Sunday night is not a good thing for 2 older folks and their 2 dogs. We'd been traveling with our fifth wheel from Tucson, Arizona for 6 days.

It was our good luck that the emergency road service sent Travis to rescue us with 2 tow trucks. As soon as Travis arrived, we knew things would work out. On the way to Sioux Falls, he contacted Experian and found a hotel room where our dogs were welcome. Travis stopped at the hotel, let us take necessities out of the trailer and left one of us with dogs there. I went with Travis to the GMC dealer where he completed the work ticket with an intelligent description of the problem, changed the bad tire on the trailer so we could leave when the truck was fixed and took me back to the hotel .

He'd spent more than 6 hrs on the call and did so much more than just "tow' the vehicles. If we lived closer then 4 hours away, we'd use him for service. Thanks Travis, you know your stuff and are a fine, kind person.

Woke up to a dead batteries at 4:30 am at the coffee cup in Hartford SD. One of their drivers on his way back to their shop happened to pull into the truck stop. I asked if he would be able to help me out…he did and got my truck going in short order. Price was reasonable and I was really thankful for the assistance. Good people and they deserve your business.

Highway 38 Towing is the BEST! They showed up to tow our van after a major blizzard when no other tow companies would come to our rescue. Travis and Dani drove over 3 hours each way to get us after they already had a full day of towing. Travis is so experienced. He had our van on his flat bad in minutes in sub zero temperatures. They drove us to the mechanic, then to our hotel...going above and beyond the call of service. We couldn't thank them enough for getting us out of a bad situation and we highly recommend for all towing needs. We SO much appreciate them going so far out of the way to help. Extremely helpful, professional, and quick company! I was stranded in 3 foot snowdrift on a back county road in 5 degree weather. Travis came right away to winch me out of the situation I was in. He even took the extra step to check under my hood to make sure my radiator fans were clear of snow so my vehicle wouldn’t overheat down the road. I am so thankful!

Absolutely AMAZING experience, both Travis and his son were such a blessing to my family and self. We are traveling cross country from Indiana to Washington, and noticed issues with our car, found them on Google called them up and even though they were closed they came out of their way to help us. After lots of time and obstacles of the wrong part being given to Travis, he completes the job after MIDNIGHT fully dedicated to getting me and my family back on the road that same day. He did above and beyond and even called a few minutes after we left to make sure everything was going okay and feeling okay with the car. Give this man your business!

Mom and daughter day gone wrong! When Progressive left me stranded on the interstate with my kids; I called the closest tow company! Travis happened to be on the other end of the line! He was very transparent and friendly; he got to us quickly; was honest about my situation and drove us 30 miles into the town we were going so we didn't miss our girls day; once unloaded at the local Walmart and finding out they in fact did NOT have the size tire I needed; he made effort to find me some place that did; Loaded us back up and took us to the next stop! His prices were very reasonable; and although breaking down is always an unexpected cost... Travis's kindness, care and effort to get me and my girls back on the road was worth every penny!

Traveling from Chicago to Mt Rushmore with our 9 yr old grandson when the RV had a blowout. Good Sam would have taken forever. HWY 38 was there quickly, had to make two trips back to the shop to mount and balance our RV tire and still had us on the road in short order. They saved the day and the start of our trip. Couldn’t thank them enough.

Travis tried to be an absolute savior when I called at 930pm in desperation for a tow. After my all day fiasco with AAA telling me they couldn't find anyone and I'd have to call back tomorrow and knowing that at 330 am it would hit its 24 hr mark on the road and would be towed by the sheriff and cost a fortune, I was relieved. After a full day already he didn't hesitate. Only to find out the McCook County Sheriff had already towed it at 430pm (13 hrs on the road) even though we called (in the am) to let them know we were getting it towed. Thank you so much guys for trying to come to our aid!

Welp, I tried motor vehicle figure skating on i-90 and boy howdy could it have gone worse. After a power slide into a massive 180 I was marooned in the median, up to my wheel wells in powder. Before I could even assess the damage, the flashing yellow lights of my savior emerged from the fog of this treacherous night. The devil works hard but Travis from Hwy 38 Towing works harder. Within ten minutes, he showed up and hauled me out of the pickle I was in - no call necessary. Simple, fast, and telepathic, just how I like it.

5+++! My daughter and her 4 month old son and I we’re driving from Georgia to Seattle. Realized we had massive tire problems (on a Sunday of course). We luckily were at a rest stop and not far from this shop. The driver was there quickly and had the truck loaded quickly! Even though he had been working since 1am already. They made sure we got to a safe hotel and everything was fine before they left us. They were very helpful and accommodating and totally honest about the whole chain of events. They went above and beyond any other tow service I’ve ever had. Customer service is still a thing! Recommend highly if you have the unfortunate situation of your vehicle breaking down. There’s nothing in walking distance anywhere nearby so they could definitely take advantage. They absolutely did not! Great experience all the way around!!

Had fifth wheel hitch emergency brake wire sheared in middle of night. Travis was so awesome, helped figure it was the issue over phone. Took calls in middle of night, so grateful for his and his crew

Travis and crew are wonderful to work with. They were very persistent and determined in helping me solve a pesky ignition problem on my old Willys.

On our way to Rapid City our RV broke down at a roadside rest. We called numerous companies for help and no one would help. Luckily we found the number for Hwy 38 Towing and Travis came out and helped us out. 5 stars is not enough for this company and definitely not for Travis. He went above and beyond to help us out, more than what anyone would expect. We are truly grateful for all that he did!!

My car over heated on the interstate with my dog. It was 100 degrees outside when it happened. They had my car loaded within 20 minutes after I called and got me and my dog on the road within 2 hours. Awesome people. They saved the day.

We were on our way home, about 11pm, when we hit a deer with our truck hauling a fifth wheel camper. Travis came, picked up our truck, took it to his yard, went and got a fifth wheel hitch, and went back for our camper! He offered to help fix our truck to get back on the road and took my husband to get parts at the store. He was so friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!! Thank you so much!

Travis was very helpful, I ended up not needing his service but he referred me to someone who could get me tires and also offered to get me some used ones. Travis was very upfront about the potential cost for a tow which seemed reasonable considering it was 6 degrees outside. I will definitely keep this number in my phone.

We were on our way home from Mt Rushmore and car broke down. Travis was very quick to get to us. He towed my car from Salem to Canton SD. Very pleasant chatting along the way with me and my husband. I would recommend Travis to anyone. I travel quite frequently by myself and I would feel perfectly safe and comfortable if I was alone.

The world would be a better place if there were more people like Travis. Full disclosure, I did not end up actually getting towed or and other billable service by Travis, my review is still very applicable.
We were having some car trouble, I called to discuss getting towed to Sioux falls. Travis was honest about his availability being a little further out than ideal, but after discussing my situation he made some suggestions that might get me to my destination without needing a tow. He gave good advice that got me to where I needed to go and he even called later to check on us. First class all the way!
