I took my 14 yr son fishing and it was an absolute joy. The smile on his face was priceless. And all the fish he was catching helped a lot too. I definitely recommend a family outing here. Making memories is what life is all about.

Beautiful scenery and quite an experience seeing the Dam close up. I already knew how hydroelectric plants worked but it was amazing to see one in operation. Nice little visitors section where you can BBQ and sit at picnic tables under a covered area, quite nice.

Great opportunity to catch Rainbow Trout year-round. Alabama fishing license is all you need. No bathrooms. River access sites are generally clean - fishermen taking care of their access.

Beautiful area to watch skiers. It is 264 feet deep at the deepest point by the dam. Sometimes it can get a bit congested.

Views from across the access site ...Looking head on from water level on the rip rap of Smith Dam... parking lot, both boat docks, and the new pavilion constructed for fishing tournaments as a weigh-in station

Nice place to look around and check out nature. Popular with trout fishermen because trout are stocked in the cold waters here.

Well developed fishing area with picnic tabled under roof. Paved parking and concrete walk along dam outlet. Great little Vista area

Fantastic trout fishing. I would highly recommend. You can also check the power generation schedule ahead of time to make sure when they will have the generators and turbines running (subject to change of course) and during that time the water starts flowing pretty heavy making it difficult to fish.

Great place to fish for trout! Really the only place in Alabama, that's worth it. Recently Gadsden started a trout fishing program at Naccallula Falls, but costs money and mostly catch and release.
Sipsey Fork below the Lewis Smith dam is free with an Alabama fishing license... and the trout are awesome! Might not catch the limit, but quality fish and a great time spent all day fishing! In the summer if your hot, just wade in a bit and you'll be ice cold! Or if you dare, submerge yourself! Totally refreshing if you can handle it!
The fishing supply store at the beginning of the road is great. They'll show you what you need, whether your fly fishing or using regular poles!

Caught some more very nice rainbow trout.
Lost a few getting them up the wall to the pier but still had a nice Day.
