Western New Mexico Aviation Heritage Museum

Visited Museum six years ago. Had to stop as I remember stories that my Mom told us kids that when she flew across country she would use these as markers for direction since they had no radar back then. Seeing this brought back the memories of those stories.

As a geographer and one who knows about the arrows across America from the Transcontinental mail runs in the 1920s and 30s, I was thrilled to come by to see this fantastic exhibit.the museum is open on Saturdays but it's still worth a trip to see the outside exhibit and arrow with the beacon.

An interesting museum about early navigation aids for aviation

Outstanding but no one working.

I was hoping that the third time would be the charm, but here we are – third time, no charm. I came by early on in the pandemic, and the grounds were lovely, though understandably the museum was closed. Fast forward two trips and two years, and the museum still is closed. The once clean grounds are choked with weeds and sadly, it looks abandoned. I was really hoping to get inside because the displays within the museum itself look to be fascinating. Hopefully, someone will clean up the property and get some people working inside once again. Hours posted on a sign or on the internet would be great, too.

Roadtrippers definitely doesn't give the correct directions. It's right at the airport so just Google maps that location. Overall it well put together for being a small operation and site. Unless you are seeking out this specific aviation history or want a 5 minute stop right off a route you are driving it could be a disappointing stop based on expectations.
