Huge area for hiking and backpacking in the wild. Includes the tallest mountain in the state and multiple hiking trails and horse back riding trails.

Beautiful long hike but its worth it. Grayson Highland State Park is a good starting point. At the second gate, you just follow the sign...that says stay on the white blaze to Mount Roger Summit...although the last 0.3 mile to the summit you follow the blue blaze. Otherwise,the trail is easy to follow and then trace your step back to the parking lot. It's took us about 6 hours out and back, but that's because we stopped many times for snacks and picture taking.

A great place to day hike or backpack. Horses are also welcome. The wild horses, bear, and other fauna and flora are beautiful.

Amazing for backpacking or day hiking in the wild ponies are fun to see. Plus you can park and do an easy two night backpacking trip. The Appalachian trail shelters makes camping easy as well. If you go in August you can find lots of wild berries!

Amazing place! However, the road to the trail is unpaved with many potholes, so, depending on the weather, it can be unsafe to drive there
