We've had to call the Clerk of Court's office three or four times in the past couple of weeks, since we no longer live in the area. The Clerk is a nice guy from what I remember of him, in the past - but the child running reception is as rude as she can be. She doesn't have any knowledge about their policies and procedures, she has placed us on hold for over 15 minutes a couple of times and never picked the call back up (the call was disconnected), and she has hung up on us every single time we've called. Incredibly unprofessional, absolutely needs to be replaced.

*UPDATES I finally received a phone call, from the Clerk of Estates, 1 month later. Under NC law, she is acting as probate Judge and conducting my father’s business as Executor of the Estate. Unfortunately, I had to deduce this on my own. I have yet to receive any information about this process, as named Executor in his legal will. Nonetheless, I expect it will take a year, or more for the process to be complete. Fingers crossed!

I lost my last living parent, October 2022. This is a plea for more help for the Office of the Superior Court Clerk, handling family estates. Ms. Johnson is clearly overworked and likely underpaid. My family’s bereavement has been made worse due 90+ days of delays in processing simple paperwork. This has resulted in significant duress during this already difficult time.

This should not be the Clerk’s burden to bear alone. The Hertford County office state that it is a center of excellence and prides itself on quality customer service. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience.

When, I received the initial title transfer paperwork, the VIN number was written incorrectly. Adding 4 additional weeks, requiring additional notary services and expenses for expedited shipping. Finally, 83 days later, the clerk was able to send proceeds, from the car sale, to pay remaining funeral expenses. The funeral home confirmed they received payment, on behalf of the family estate, from this Clerk’s office, Feb. 21st, 2023.
