I think the Hayfield Library is wonderful and perfect for our small town! Their selection of books/dvds/tapes/etc is all donated and the staff is all volunteers which are both great for many reasons, but the reason I love it so much is that they don't hit you with late/loss fees which is great for my family with a youngster just starting out reading who is still practicing responsibility. Because I can try everything but lock library books in a safe only to be looked at under certain circumstances but occasionally a book gets lost or mixed in with her own collection and not returned on time. No late fees/loss fees means that even when that happens, she can still come and check out more books because the library is her favorite place and checking out books to read for the week is basically the highlight of her week and we have visited a couple other local libraries that life happened and books went missing and now we have very large balances due that can't quite be paid for yet so she can't check anything out at those libraries. So no fees is a blessing.
It is typically pretty empty when we visit, maybe one extra person will pop in quick every now and then but the crowd is low. There are computers with a printer and copies in black and white are only 5 cents if I'm not mistaken. There's quite a Large selection of books in both the "grown up" section as well as the kids. The kids area has a lego table and puzzles and candy machines with 25 cent candy and a table with select books set out with small chairs for children. There is free wifi and the librarians who is working is always happy to give the password.
Every volunteer working there that ee have met so far has been wonderful. They have all been friendly and they also do a quick job when checking out all the books we choose. (which is usually closer to 50 than any other number.)
I believe they have summer activities and events for kids as well.
We visit the Library every week and will continue to do so as long as it is open.
