the Water Stop

One of the best dishes I had in 2023!

My boyfriend and I were in Marfa for one night before heading into Big Bend, and the Water Stop was actually our backup dinner option. Luckily, our first pick didn’t work out. We ordered the Rigatoni Alla Vodka and their seasonal soup to share. After one bite of the pasta I was no longer interested in sharing because it was so delicious. I don’t remember if the pasta came with grilled chicken or if I asked for it to be added, but it was juicy, tender and flavorful. The sauce was incredible and the cheese was a lovely texture. The soup was also tasty, but I was consumed by the pasta. This was on December 27, and with only 4 days left in the year, I can confidently say it was one of the best dishes I ate in 2023.

The vibes are moody, the restaurant lit by candlelight and heated by a wood-fired stove. Super cozy and chill. They also have patio seating which I imagine would be great for brunch in the sunshine.

The inside of the restaurant is dark so it took me a few movements for my eyes to adjust but when it did I was surprised at how welcoming this place was. They had a Christmas tree up already and the place was heated by an antique wood burning stove. Nicely done.

The service and food were on point. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Greeted us with a genuine smile and introduced the menu to us. I ended up getting a green chile cheeseburger and my wife an acorn squash and ginger soup. Our friends ordered an 8 oz steak raw (cooked correctly) and another green chile cheeseburger. The food tasted great and priced right.

Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back if we're ever back in Marfa.

It did take a while for us to get served - we waited 20-30 minutes until someone came and took our order. BUT then the food came very quickly and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The roasted beet appetizer was life changing as was the veggie burger. So good!!!!

Our group of 4 got the Jalapeño jelly feta burger. Absolutely did not disappoint, would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a sit down restaurant experience with great drinks!

Love love love! So happy with the food! We were surprised by the freshness of everything considering you’re kinda in the “middle of nowhere” but the food was better than a lot of what we get in Austin. Service was great too!

Seriously, the best burgers I’ve had in a very long time. When the menu is literally 3 things you know it’s going to be good. This place did not disappoint. Highly recommend.

Recommend the place for the food, cool breeze over the covered patio, and porch sittin vibe of being located right on the main drag. The Chile burger was absolutely delicious.

You have to give this place a try! We stopped in for cocktails and weren't disappointed! Grilled pineapple margarita and a prickly pear ranch water - so good! We didn't eat but saw the burgers and chicken sandwiches coming out of the kitchen - looked huge and delicious! Manuela our waitress was spot on. Next time we're in the area we will stop in for some great food, drinks and hospitality!!

Vibes are on point. Smells amazing, service was just perf, so chill, and the food was just absolutely delicious…the kind where you just do a happy food dance. The fries and aioli sauce? I can’t. Also the cocktail glasses feel so good in your hand. One of those places where everything is just right. Cannot wait to go back and try more of their menu!

Great, relaxed place to eat. Fast, friendly service with burgers and a twist. Need just a little music. Be nice if they put some corrugated metal on outdoor sitting area. That way we can sit and eat outside when sunny or raining. Meals all top notch!

Dog friendly, covered/ shaded outdoor patio. I recommend the green chili burger and hand cut fries. The Prickly Pear Ranch Water was a worthy well designed low calorie cocktail that I will order again. Check the pics.

Absolutely amazing food! And such a wonderful spot for brunch! So inviting and fun! Service was a little slow but that was to be expected not a big deal and shouldn’t deter from this amazing place! We had the chicken and waffle and breakfast sandwich and it was 💯. And the drinks were amazing!

Great food, service, and hours

It had great food and service. The waitress was kind and very quick. The food was great. We got green chili hamburger for dinner and the spice chicken sandwich which were both flavorful.

They had alot of indoor and outdoor seating.

It also one of the only places open all week for lunch and dinner.

We had a great experience at The Water Stop. The young ladies working were very friendly and attentive while being super busy. We tried a little of everything, pulled pork sandwich, steak, rotisserie chicken, wedge salad, bruschetta, fries and the margaritas! I hope to visit again when I’m back for a visit.

The Water Stop surprised me at brunch! Great patio and vibe. Everything I tried was delicious, especially the fried chicken sandwich, biscuit and the cashew grain bowl. Our service was attentive but some of our plates were served cold. (Cold fries don’t hit the same.)

The food is absolutely amazing. A must if you're in the Marfa area.

It can be nerve-wracking visiting a small town as a vegetarian, but thankfully in Marfa there are plenty of options, like The Water Spot. I had the most incredible black bean burger and fries here. Get the green chile if you can handle heat! Lovely vibes, wait staff and a great experience overall.

I had been looking forward to having lunch here for a few weeks as we were planning our trip to the area. I had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, my friend had the Chicken Sandwich, his son had the Chicken and Waffle, my son had the Cheeseburger with Mac&Cheese. Everybody loved their food, and everything looked and tasted amazing. We sat outside on their patio and it was a beautiful day and was the perfect start to our walk around Marfa.

Everything that we ordered was prepared well, was seasoned well, and tasted great, including the drinks. We appreciate plant-based food and this place had enough options for our table of two to order three separate dishes (including their Vegan Dark Chocolate Mouse) and a few of their specialty drinks ... all were enjoyed. The Vegan Dark Chocolate Mouse was so good that I stuffed it in our cooler and tried to slowly consume a few bites a day during our road trip so I could simply extend my enjoyment of that dessert.

We tried two of their fresh juices; a watermelon slushy (that had to be prepared like a Mexican juice stand as just watermelon juice on ice due to a slushy machine failure) and a Ginger Shot that hit the spot with a sweetened, spicy ginger kick that you'll appreciate if you are into fresh ginger drinks.

The Ceasar Salad was not vegan due to the parmesan cheese (and maybe the dressing as we are not as diligent with veganism while traveling, but you'll want to ask if you are), but the lettuce was fresh and a fresh lemon sqweeze gave each bite a nice acidic pop. THE FRENCH FRIES and toasted brioche bun for Avocado Veggie Burger set this dish apart. The pattie appears to be a familiar, high-quality store-bought (I could be wrong) pattie, but everything atop and surrounding it made it a very satisfying dish.

Back to THE FRENCH FRIES ... they appeared to be fresh cut, with skin on. They had a tasty coating from being freshly fried and salted while hot! Order these alone if you enjoy tasting deep fried potatos with a hint of salt on them. I am unable to compare them to anywhere else for reference, they are simply prepared uniquely well.

If you are passing through, I would suggest this restaurant during non-peak hours as it is right on one of the two main streets that travels east/west through the quaint city. Everyong that we interacted with was great, and drink/food service was prompt. We sat outdoors, but the interior is a funky combination of art that tends to make Marfa the eclectic city that it is. We will be sure to support this local business the next time that we are passing through Marfa.

Pricy restaurant, but so so delicious! They had amazing signature drinks, awesome salads, big juicy burgers... try the one with the jalapeño jelly and feta! Then, some scrumptious looking ice cream flavors (I was too full, but those flavors sounded heavenly! ). Go here! You won't regret it!
