Nice small little campground about 10 miles outside of Capitan, NM. There are 5 official spots, one is very close to the one we were in (as you can see in the video) so I will call it 4 spots unless you have friends you are camping with. Two of the spots do not have shade pavilions, 3 do.

Garbage cans are at the campsites with coverings and there is one pit toilet for the campground. Fairly flat gravel sites and fire pits.

This campground is a bit busy on the weekends but is very quiet as it's off the main road a ways.

While we were here, the garbage was emptied regularly and the bathroom was clean and stocked. We were very impressed!

Free camping for up to 14 days, very clean campground and great views of the Capitan mountains. 4G Verizon cell coverage, no T-Mobile. We would definitely stay here again.

***Side note...if you go into Capitan there are a few things you definitely need to check out. One is Oso Grill which is the place to eat in town. They have amazing food and make it all from scratch. Second is Smokey the Bear museum. Pretty cool little museum with outside walking area to see where Smokey the Bear is buried. Third is Fort Stanton, an old fort that you can tour and see an amazing piece of history. You can even walk inside some of their buildings.

Such a peaceful, clean, and large space to hang out. 3 gazebos with picnic tables under 2. From our count there are technically 4 spots. 3 pull through and one sort of turn out.

Camp host is amazing and picks up your garbage every other day.

Spotless pit toilet.

Unfortunate that the cave is now on a moratorium for white nose syndrome in bats.

Lots of hiking trails around with fantastic views!

Came here in early April 2021 on the suggestion of the hosts at Jagger's Campground about 2 miles away. The price is right (free) and the 2nd largest cave in NM is literally IN the campsite! It's closed (fence), but still very cool. Scenery is nice and it's super secluded. No water, but the vault toilet was cleaner than my home bathroom.

Very safe spot for the night with a clean pit toilet. There are three spots with pavilions.

This is one of my favorite free camp sites. It has a basic unisex bathroom. Trash cans and gazebos with slabs are laid out around the waterless toilet room. We camped in a tent and drove in with a jeep with no problem but the road is a bit washed out and bumpy. We stayed one night and we had quite a bit of privacy. There were a few other people parked in the park area to hike, bike or the like but no other campers were in the camp ground after dark that night. We heard nothing but crickets all night with clear skies and a cool breeze. When we woke up in the morning we saw the overseer come in to do his morning checks of the area and the restroom. After he left, we started to pack up when we saw a military looking caravan pull in. It had a mix of modern and antique vehicles. They had weapons with blanks and full camo fatigues. After they all hopped out to take a leak, we made our way out so they could get on with the show. The cave was closed but we did see a huge, magnificent elk with gigantic antlers walking on the highway as we left. We were in the other lane and we all passed each other with no problem. Whew!

Some nice campers left behind firewood and walking sticks for the next folks to come along. Stars were clearly vidible coyotes in the diustance to put you to sleep. Lots of rocks around to build a fire pit, many firepits already built. Plenty of of wood for fire. Restroom is surprisingly clean stocked w/ tp. Trash cans are only partially covered. There were three main spots with covered picnic tables. It's posted to camp within 100ft of the road. There is hiking to do nearby, there are elk and there is some off-roading as well as scarcely improved roads up into the hilltops and peaks.

Hidden gem! This is a small, off-the-beaten-track BLM campground that was really nice. Excellent facilities, great location. We'll come back again.

If you are looking to get away from people and boondock, this is the place to go....quiet....peaceful....good cell coverage with Verizon and ATT. No water or electric, but it is beautiful.

Awesome primitive campground run by the BLM. Not crowded and had trash cans, shelters at 3 spots, and a vault toilet.
