What a neat spot. It's a bit of a drive from the main road but worth the history. The people that volunteer inside give a great little tour and fun historical facts about the Hughes family. I felt such a presence at the top of the stairs. I bet there's a lot of that around. The property is breathtaking. There is a Porta potty toilet nearby if needed. Google it for hours of operation before taking the time to drive down to it. It is free with a donation tub.

If you love the creek of old floors and seeing history first hand this is the place to go. The view from the house is so beautiful and the house itself was fun to walk through. I don’t think there is enough to look at to consider driving a long distance to go see but if you are in the area I’d go. After all it’s free and the volunteers are so kind. After you see the house there is a trail down below that takes you to the ocean. It’s a bit of a walk but it’s beautiful the whole way.

This is one of over 30 historic properties in Oregon and was built by Patrick Hughes and his wife Jane who came to the states from Ireland. I visited on 4th of July and it was open and staffed by two volunteer women who gave me a free tour and shared much history about this family. It this is something you’re interested in, I would recommend going on a day they are open for tours (I think Monday thru Wednesday).

What appreciation I have gained for this family! This home is 3,000 square feet and cost $ 3,800.00 to build. One of the very few homes to have indoor plumbing, thanks to a near by spring. We were so fortunate the day we went, as they were doing little skits to reenact what a typical day might be like. Wonderful historical home to visit. They do appreciate donations to help keep the property up and running.

House was closed (after hours) but still accessible from outside, beautiful Victorian home located down winding sloped access road, informational boards are available around home, registered as National Historical Home in 1980, worth the see and insight into the history

I love the Hughes House!! One of my favorite historic stops in Port Orford! I love the connection to the area that the Hughes had and the tour guides are always well informed. I've been here probably a dozen times or more and I learn something new each time I come! There's so much to see, you could spend hours in here!

An amazing piece of local history and glimpse into the lives of yesteryear. Having grown up in the area, I've visited Hughes House for many, many years. We still go nearly every Christmas.

The house and setting are just lovely. It is well worth the drive out there, especially when open. They have restored and furnished the house to period. The upstairs is also open.

Very friendly staff. You have the option of a guided tour or a self guided tour. The gentleman that showed us around was an encyclopedia of knowledge. Both of the guides had a fair amount to share and they seem genuinely excited to share. Definitely worth your 30 minutes if it's open

If you're into old architecture, there's no reason not to stop by, even with it being closed. It's a 5 second drive way. Stop by on the way to the light.
