Fun to walk through, but especially after listening to a few podcasts about the the case. I highly suggest the Morbid episodes about it. It was a little odd to see the juxtaposition of more modern toys in the space that were left as offerings for the children, but mostly nice. Oh! And make sure to have cash!

Tour was amazing and the young lady (sorry we forgot her name) who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable on all the events and she let us walk around the house by ourselves. 10 out of 10 would recommend!!!

This is the most creepy place I’ve ever been my friends and I got scratched, grabbed and possibly possessed it was definitely a fun experience unlike the saile house we went to 2 days later.

Awesome place to visit if you're into creepy/haunted/true crime. Cash only! There is a small bank very close where you can use the ATM if you don't have cash on you. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable of the history of the house.

We had a fantastic time on this affordable, self-guided tour. There was an employee outside to help answer any questions and was very helpful!

It was really fun. Emily (I hope I remembered her name right) was amazing and patient with us while we bombarded her with questions. The trip thru the house was everything we imagined it would be plus more! 10/10 would definitely recommend visiting!

Was a very cool to visit. Creepy but cute little house. Were there during the day but still had a couple of interesting things happen. Definitely worth the stop.

What an interesting place. I want really sure what to expect but it was fun. The upstairs definitely has a different atmosphere about it. We heard a few things and even captured an intelligent response evp. If you are planning on spending the night there, keep your group small because the house is tiny. And if you are going in the fall or winter, dress warmly, it was quite chilly! I would go back again with one or two people for sure.

Emily was amazing!! We plan on booking an overnight soon. I love that this place doesn't limit your interactions with the house itself as long as you're respectful and courteous.

What an experience. The feeling going into the house becomes very thick and sad. Go in with respect.

Having spent my childhood reading magazines and comics in the storage room of my parent's newspaper shop in the UK, I became familiar with this case at the tender age of nine. After moving to the US, I had made it a goal to one day not only visit the house but also to investigate the house. My strange and creepy dream came true, and I was able to spend a night in the house. To say the house was active would be an understatement.
There is something so undeniably creepy in the way the sunlight makes this house seem so quaint and ordinary, and one could almost be fooled into believing the house is just another house, like many others in this small Iowa town. when the sun goes down, however, something changes, there is a shift of energy and you can no longer deny, that something very bad happened within its walls.
Johnny is an exceptional tour guide, friendly and knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions.
We look forward to returning to the house and highly recommend an overnight stay at the Villisca ax murder house.

It was so cool getting to visit and hear about the family that lived there.

Great tour guide. Gives you information before you go in then it's FREE REIGN. Considering it's history if you get there right at 1 you can whip out your ghost hunting gear all alone. Beautiful antique furniture and set up.

We rented the house for an overnight. The tour guide was so nice and very knowledgeable. The barn had a beautiful and clean bathroom. The house is well maintained. We had some paranormal activity, but not a lot. I would go back again!

We spent the night at the Ax Murder House and enjoyed it very much. We had a party of three and the small house was about perfect for that. Dealing with the owner was a delight and the man who checked us in was very pleasant and informative. There is no electricity in the house, but they run an extension cord to the house just in case you need to charge your phone. Two window units provide heat and air. We went in the spring, and the temperature in the house was fine. We actually turned the upstairs unit off.
Regarding scares, we didn't have many "in your face" happenings, but there were a few things that stand out. While two of us were sleeping, my wife heard the first few notes of a nursery rhyme from upstairs. We later found a toy that the sound could've come from, but it had no batteries.
I highly recommend you take a lot of photos. Take photos of everything in the house as soon as you arrive and then take a lot of photos throughout your stay and before leaving. We noticed some items had been moved, and none of us did it. For example, the killer had covered all of the mirrors in the house. One of the mirrors was not covered upon our arrival, but the following day it was covered. In one of the photos my wife took, there appears to be a dark shadow of a figure that wasn't visible to the naked eye. My wife also took a selfie while in the attic, and the photo had marks across her face.
We had set up a game camera upstairs, and it definitely picked up several orbs.
We visited the Villisca Cemetery to pay respects to the family who lost their lives during this terrible crime. We were able to locate the families graves at the following GPS Coordinates 40.938395,-94.974523. We did not find the graves of the other two little girls, but we were recognized they are buried with their family there.
Overall we had a great time on our first trip like this. We may come back and visit again.
