Temporarily closed due to weather related problems. The roof has a leak and this building is not able to be reopened safely. You are able to call and setup a tour of safe areas of the museum.

This is a great museum that covers the history of Monroe County, The history is interesting because the area once had a much larger population. The company town of Buxton is well done and explains the rise and fall of this racially integrated coal town located in Bluff Creek Township. The cool air conditioning inside the old trollie barn is nice on a hot summer day. Make sure to visit the school house out back. Albia has always been a big train town and it makes this museum a must see for train lovers. Very limited hours so plan accordingly.

My Grandfather and Grandmother donated much of this collection from their pioneer families. You can see anything from farm equipment to Victorian hair art. To me it was fascinating to see hair art, that belonged to and names people in my family tree. Also there is farming ewuipment, stoves, technology etc. That my grandparents used and their parents and grandparents used all the time but which fell out of use over time.
