Cool place with interesting history. Went on a flashlight tour for Halloween, and it was definitely spooky! I highly recommend checking it out.

I've been to the squirrel cage jail for their day tour and their flashlight tour. Both were very insightful and fun, but I recommend the day tour is you want to see more of the place. Great history

Whether you're a nearby resident or passing through this is worth a visit. This very unique historic building will transport you back in time during your self guided tour. Everything from furnishings, to items in the inmate cells, to inmate graffiti are displayed as they were left when the inmates were removed in 1969. Many items are preserved in place as they were installed in 1885!
The self guided tour takes about an hour and has a lot of information along the way.
Located near I-80 and I-29, it's a quick stop for travelers.

So this was my second attempt to see this place and again it was close. A man drove up and asked if I was in town visiting. He happened to be the VP of this historic site. Gave an unanticipated tour. What a blessing. Please support the site's history and the men and women who work in law enforcement. Blessings

Great piece of history to check out. Have to see in person to learn the working of this place first hand. Seeing what things were like back in that time. How the prisoners lined back then. Wouldn't think there was that much in that one building but it is.

What an awesome place to visit. This historical site was so interesting and an awesome learning experience. I have never heard of this place ever before. There are three locations one in Indiana that the actual cage still turns, the one in Missouri does not turn and the one in Iowa does not turn. But doing a complete walk-through of all four levels of the jailI and seeing and experiencing what these inmates experienced was amazing. It’s a part of history that everybody should see and learn about. I never knew this existed. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions. To learn that they even have juveniles and women housed here is amazing. And the fact that the warden and his wife lived at the top and that the wife would cook for the inmates is mind blowing. It’s definitely a historical site you need to visit.

We visited the jail for a paranormal investigation on a Friday night. I was very impressed with how well kept the building is, how clean it was, and how great Kat did of giving us a tour and sharing info. I would definitely recommend this jail to anybody- whether you're looking for ghosts or just interested in a unique piece of history. We need to continue to support this organization so we don't lose this relic.

Nice hosts. Oddball depression era relic museum. Kinda sad but interesting. Takes about 30 minutes to tour. Less than $10 per person.

This was a very unique jail. It is loaded with history and has original artifacts. I was surprised how small it was but how many inmates it could hold. It is a self guided tour, you get a small "booklet" telling you about all of the rooms, that you return at the end.

A unique experience in Council Bluffs Iowa. This old jail has a unique turntable design that you have to see to believe and understand. We'll worth a stop off of I 80.

Very interesting to hear about the jail was run, who had been prisoners there, and about the jail itself. The staff was very friendly, shared a lot of information, and was able to answer questions we had.
We booked one of the night time "paranormal" tours. It was a lot of fun to wander through the building at night and though we didn't see any ghosts, we had a great time.

Such an interesting place! You'll take a self guided tour of the rotary jail. It is one of only three such jails left and the only one with three tiers. Metered parking available nearby as well as other attractions and historical sites. It's worth having a little time to visit!
We also bought the book about the jail by S. M. Senden, which is very informative and well written.

A very interesting place to visit if you are in the area! I didn't really know much about rotary jails until, I came to this neat place! Also found this is one of only three left in the US!
