Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge

I do not hunt but I love to hike/ bike in the hunting areas off season and it's very dark at night for astrophotography. Fireflies in June are amazing here.

I did field work at this beautiful refuge during the summer of 2019. The staff were all very friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this refuge as both a place to work and explore.

Hello, I just wanted to share a feedback here. My wife, our dog, and I were on the unmarked trail by Vernon and E 1250 St a few days ago (August 28, 2023), we must have hit a tick nest because there were thousands of tiny ticks swarming, crawling, and biting on the 3 of us. We are hoping to share this tick warning here, so that the others can be well prepared when visiting.
