A sudden change in weather forced us to cancel our distance travel plans so decided to make a short trip to visit this museum since we already had day together planned. Was well worth the 30 minute drive. An excellent museum that showcases the changes in the area over the past 150 years. The exhibits are well put together and organized for a visitor to have an educational tour as you wonder through the museum. Much more to see than what you might expect for a small town. Admittance is free but consider leaving a donation. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely Love this Museum. I've visited 3 times on my trips down US 160 and the Santa Fe Trail.

Brought friends from Memphis and my Fiance on different occasions.

I always donate something and buy a book!

Here are some photos.

This is one of the best small town museums I have ever been in. Free....but leave a donation if you can. The history of Ulysses is a bit strange with the moving of the town in the early 1900s. My great grandfather was there in the beginning and I was able to donate many early documents and letters. If you are in Ulysses try to stop by.

Must see. Very well done. The hotel and one room school house are time machines. The museum is informative and a visual feast. All vlose up and free.

Ginger Anthony is the county historian and she maintains the museum. She has exhibits that are fun and interesting of our county. Like the mammoth bones that were found. Or the piece of the old hotel it's only a quarter of the hotel but so much history in it. One of the one room school houses is there and the second graders used to go there once a year for a day of school.
Through out the summer- usually from June through October- Saturday mornings are set aside for the farmers market. Any one can set up there and sell produce, live plants, homemade foods, art, or any various items. Also during the summer if Bike Across Kansas comes through a special station is set up for that time.
The fall brings the auction.
Christmas brings several weekends of fun such as a day of singers- local talent, horse drawn wagon rides, Santa, a night of wine tasting, and so much more.
Our museum is more than old stuff staged in a building. It is also making things happen now.

Absolutely loved this place. You get to walk through the exhibits rather than just reading endless plaques. If you're on the Santa Fe NHT you can't miss this stop!!!
