Malden Library

I love the staff at the Malden Public Library! They always go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The library is always clean and inviting.

We came to the library to check it out as we had just moved to the area and we felt most unwelcome by the front desk lady. As soon as we entered she informed me my two youngest had to be right beside me because it was Missouri state law, which is fine, the kiddos were not going to be running amok anyway. My oldest went to look in the young adult section and she made it a point to immediately ask me how old he was to make sure he could be by himself, even after I had given her the kids ages. We looked for a few moments before she got up out of her chair to find us and talk to us about becoming a patron. We had no piece of mail at our new address as we had just moved. As she’s telling me we need to have a piece of mail to be patrons, my middle child walks towards the bathrooms which are maybe ten feet away and she is very quick to say, quite rudely might I add “and per the law they HAVE to be right next to you”. And then asks again about becoming a patron. When I tell her again we don’t have a piece of mail yet she says that’s fine you’re more than welcome to ride out this storm at our building but you do need that piece of mail to be a patron. But clarkton DOES have its own library you could go there”. We were just looking for fun things to do around the new area and I was not aware you couldn’t visit public libraries without being a patron? We will not be going back any time soon.
