Standing Rock Monument

Standing Rock Monument is a basic spot over looking the Missouri River in Fort Yates. We visited on a Sat morning so no issues with parking. Surprising amount of Dakota History on display. I did not see any rest rooms nor any place to sit.

Nice public monument to the past with informative signage.
No nearby amenities.

I liked reading the plaques and looking at the old pictures the most. The rock is evidently a big deal to native Americans, so that’s cool, plus it’s close to Sitting Bull’s original burial place.

One might envision a crystal vault surrounding such a precious piece of heritage. To find it surounded by striped parking spaces leaves one thunderstruck.

It made all my wildest dreams come true.

Not spectacular, but a place for goosebumps if you know the History.

Impressive but neglected piece of history, that deserves much better care and attention. Next to it a landmark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition; even more unattended.

Just don't visit at night is all I suggest. Other than that it looks well kept!

Interesting rock, important piece of history

Small place, not much to see. I respect the history behind the stone and appreciate the information boards. If you passing by anyway, it's worth a stop, but do not make a long detour.

No plaque to describe. Trash and junk cars around it.
