Moonshine Uroa Boutique Hotel

Wow, what an amazing stay we had here! The most relaxing space and a lovely pool to enjoy. We loved that the hotel was just a few steps from the beach. The hotel managers and staff are so friendly and helpful. The restaurant served delicious food and reosanably priced.

I visited the hotel and it was a beautiful cosy hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms facing the beach were very nice, brightly-themed, and gave a very relaxing feeling.
The ambience was good, and it was like a hone far away from home. I will definitely visit the Boutique Hotel again.

Moonshine Uroa Boutique hotel is absolutely amazing! Our family of 5 (kids aged 10,8 and 6)stayed at this lovely hotel for 7 days over Christmas. Firstly, staff is so friendly and ALWAYS goes the extra mile to make it special. Secondly, it is extremely beautiful, being so close to nature and walking out of your bungalow onto the beach is breathtaking and relaxing. Thirdly, whenever there was a maintenance issue they sorted it out immediately.
Our kids loved this hotel, and just want to go back!!!!
This is a 3 star hotel but over delivers in terms of flavorsome food (had dinner here every evening, explored some other restaurants during the day but still came back for delicious dinners) and huge portions.
I have read some terrible reviews and was very sceptical, but we had an amazing holiday and will definitely go back to Moonshine.
If you expect 5 star rooms, then don't come!!! BUT if you want to relax and experience Zanzibar at its best, you can't go wrong with this lovely gem.
PS remember water shoes, makes walking and swimming so much easier!

Excellent Hotel right in front of the beach.The staff is very polite and helpful, the food is great and we had a wonderful time. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable. I highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed here for one week in November and it was great stay.

Pros: the property is absolutely beautiful and is located just on the beach. All rooms are seaview and you able to hear the ocean from the room - priceless. The place is tranquil (hate these noisy package resorts) and totally corresponded to my imagination of Zanzibar paradise. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Beach is beautiful and is sweamable even on low tide - if you don't mind to walk a bit on the ocean floor which is not rocky/greasy and pretty pleasant to walk on. On such occasions you will find tiny sparkling white remote "islands" where you can lay on and observe how the ocean swallows it up while high tide is coming... happiest time :)
On the practical side, we never had any issues with water/hot water, electricity, A/C or whatever. Deckchairs under palms where always available. Hotel was so kind and allowed us for late check-out (+6 hrs) for free.
Price/quality ratio for a room is unbeatable.
We rented a car and visited most of the places on Zanzibar and, in fact, I still think that is one of the best places there.

Cons: two things. No fridges in the rooms and food. Fridges are essential in the Zanzibar climate (e.g. for cold drinks) but they do not have them in any room. You're able to put your drink in the restaurant's fridge but it's annoying for both you and staff. I think they hope to sell cold drinks (10x price to the village price), that is the reason. Second, food. The breakfast is frugal and entirely vegetarian (while we're not :) with very bad, cheapest instant coffee. No natural coffee is available on the property at all. The worst thing about breakfast that you can't avoid it as there are no places around for breakfast and obviously you can't make your own. Payable launch and dinner is, in fact, the most expensive in the neighborhood and, unfortunately, the worst on quality. Perhaps, they do it for a reason, to avoid busy restaurant. However, launch and dinner is not a problem because in few steps on the beach on the left is a nice authentic "Sai Marce" restaurant that I honesty recommend (main course 10-15k Sh vs. 12-17 USD on site) or Uroa Bay hotel in few steps on the right (20%-30% cheaper with much wider selection and good choice of "wine of the day" on the supermarket price. And they do have coffee machine!).

Conclusion: That is nearly perfect place. Hotel should install fridges in the rooms and coffee machine in the restaurant, fix breakfast and cut food price by at least 20%, then it will be definitely best place on Zanzibar:)

P.S. Wi-Fi very slow and is mostly unusable. Our Vodacom mainland simcard turned out to work but similarly slow. Zantel rocks in this location. Very fast, and very cheap. Do not forget to buy a sim-card while you in Stone Town if you need Internet here.

Outstanding staff, I was never as well treated as I was in Moonshine. Would definitely be back just for the people. The place itself is simple and quiet. Ideal if you just want to relax without moving around.
