Great food, good size portions, chef is very friendly and professional. Have variety of vegetarian and vegan food which is not boring, delicious curry, noodles. Arusha soup is very tasty and served with nice not oily chapatis! The place is clean, right in front of the ocean, has tables under the hut and can rest feet in soft sand. Great choice of locally caught fish and seafood. Prices are amazing! We feel it's much better than the Rock Restaurant. Highly recommend!

Wonderful place. Restaurant on the sand. Don't be afraid to take advantage. Everything is fresh, smells great and seasoned great. I ate there every day with my family, including my 9-year-old son. In the 4 * hotel next door, the food was much worse and much more expensive. You have to be patient because it's not fast food but everything is prepared to order. I saw a cook beat an octopus with a stick, then massaged it in the sand. Despite this treatment in the sand, there were no dirt on the plate. Thanks to this, it was juicy and soft. My family also ate pastas and chicken. Everything was just as amazing. Great service. A great place to relax. You are sitting on the beach. You look out over the ocean and eat a great meal. Really worth!!

Second time to this place and it lived up to the memories. Octopus was possibly the best I've ever had and the garlic mayo they serve it with was delightful.

One of the best meals I have eaten in my life and definitely the best in Zanzibar. Don't even waste your money going to other restaurants in the region. This place is much better than any 5-star place that I went and much cheaper. The Rock is not even close to this, but it is hyped because of its location. The chef at Shanhaani Restaurant is pure talent and could be cooking anywhere. I ate a lot of different meals and it was perfect every single time, not even famous chefs get it 100% all the time with different meals and he got it. That was pretty impressive. People there are amazing, no words.

Took a chance on the chef that called me over. Returned with my husband (also a chef) and enjoyed a whole perch that was charred to perfection and not over cooked as is often the case. Don’t be put off by the simple exterior. This is where you get fresh, perfectly prepared seafood at a fraction of hotel prices.
