Penghu Airport (MZG)

A rigional airport serves air transportations for local residents and tourists between Penghu and Taiwan by two major domestic airplanes, UNI and Mandarin. The airport's facilities are good and clean compared to other regional airports.

Penghu Airport is the only airport on the island. It's really small and has no much food inside other than a 7-11 outside and a restaurant agree the immigration counter.

There's a car rental and information counter about penghu island. Friendly staff and easy to understand brochure.

All duty free item have to be collected at the airport after going through immigration.

Staff are polite and services are topnotch. The tourists information booth near exit 1 provided us with plenty of useful information and gave us directions to many local activities we didn't find online. In general, this little civ/mil airport is efficiently run and staff are professionally trained.

As a physician from Taiwan who came to support the Penghu Hospital in October 2015, I had a fantastic experience at the Magong Airport in Penghu. The photo attached to my review was taken inside the airport's lobby, and it showcases the clean and welcoming atmosphere. I am more than happy to give Magong Airport a well-deserved 5-star rating.

For travelers visiting Penghu using English, you will find this airport to be very convenient and easy to navigate. Upon exiting the airport, you will have several transportation options to choose from. Taxis are readily available, or you can opt for the local bus service to reach various parts of the island. Car and scooter rentals are also popular choices for exploring Penghu at your own pace.

Penghu is a beautiful island group with stunning landscapes, rich history, and plenty of attractions that cater to foreign visitors. Some must-see sights include the Penghu Great Bridge, the historic Erkan Village, the beautiful beaches of Jibei Island, and the captivating basalt formations at Tongpan Island.

My biggest surprise in Penghu was the incredible quality of the seafood. I often visit fishing ports in Taiwan to enjoy seafood, but the quality in Penghu is even better than that of the main island. The seafood here is fresh and free from pollution. If you visit Penghu, you must try the local seafood, especially the freshly caught oysters.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip. After late October, the northeastern monsoon season begins, and strong winds can make it unsafe to ride scooters as a means of transportation. It's better to use a car during this period. This weather is not ideal for traveling, so it's best to wait until spring, around March, when the weather improves. Unless necessary, avoid visiting Penghu in the winter.

During the summer, especially during school holidays, many people from Taiwan travel to Penghu, making it crowded. If possible, try to plan your visit outside of these peak times to avoid the crowds and have an easier time finding transportation.

In summary, Magong Airport provides a great start to your journey in Penghu, and the island's delights will surely impress you. I highly recommend it for international travelers seeking an unforgettable island getaway filled with natural beauty, history, and delicious seafood, while keeping these travel tips in mind.

Great facilities. A beautiful airport in many ways. The arrivals and departures are seldom delayed. The baggage is delivered incredibly fast. Competent staff are on site for assistance. There is ample ways to link to the rest of the county, such as by taxi, bus, car rental at the airport, and even scooter rental a five minute walk away. This year 2019, free gifts are available if you are a tourist (until March or April). A very generous offer!
