象山孔廟是一座與眾不同的孔廟，一般的孔廟皆是官辦，但象山孔廟卻是由民間創立管理。興建於清光緒二十七年(西元1901年)的象山孔廟前身為供奉玉皇大帝的玉衡宮，日據時代日本政府推動日文教育，地方仕紳為保存中華文化，於玉衡宮創立「象山書院」教導漢學，並且在此供奉至聖先師孔子。
Xiangshan Confucius Temple is a unique Confucius Temple. The general Confucius Temples are officially run, but the Xiangshan Confucius Temple was founded and managed by the people. Built in the 27th year of Guangxu Emperor Guangxu (1901), the Xiangshan Confucius Temple was formerly known as the Yuheng Palace dedicated to the Jade Emperor. In the Japanese era, the Japanese government promoted Japanese education, and the local officially established the "Xiangshan Academy" in Yuheng Palace. "Teach sinology, and enshrine here to Confucius."
