Byzantine Basilica of Castilia

The archaeological site "Koustilya" or “Castilia” has a newly discovered church/temple. Experts say it's from the late Roman era which is a sign of Christianity being present in various regions of Tunisia, particularly in the South and the Jerid region.

Update: these ruins aren’t fenced off nor being protected with a ceiling to shield them from weathering and erosion caused by the sandstorms in the area, as being shown in these pictures I took, Koustilya (Castilia) ruins are one step away from being buried again as this archeological site isn’t well preserved and the dig seems to be stopped.

Il s’agit d’une toute petite église (3m de hauteur des murs, sans compter les possibles voûtes et la toiture).
Par la céramique (quelques lampes à l’huile) et les monnaies que les archéologues y ont trouvées (les fouilles sont encore en cours), cette église daterait, à peu près du Vème siècle.

Comment oser partager des photos de fouille alors que les résultats ne sont pas encore publiés?? Des photos en plein chantier!!!
