Really lovely museum with eleven exhibition rooms organised around two courtyards. Originally used as the City Hall, it was built in 1918 in Western Colonial architectural style and opened as the national museum in 1989.
Moving from room to room in a clockwise direction the exhibition is organised in chronological order. It starts with Prehistoric periods with archeological finds of artifacts, many from the caves at Ta Lao. Then moves onto the historic periods; Dvaravati, Angkor and Thai-Lao civilisations. The Khmer influence on artistic development is very evident in the carvings displayed. Don't miss perhaps the highlight piece in this collection: "The only sitting Ardhanarishvara sculpture in SE Asia". This region was noted for the very fine craftmanship of it's textiles as noted by King Rama V who acted as agent for their woven silk cloths.
Plenty of english text in the museum describing the items and three videos also available in English.
Admission 100 Baht

Great way to look at the history of north east. For some time, the museum makes you forget the present and transports you too the past between 1000-5000 years ago. Detailing the life thru birth, the food culture and religious practices. It's a great way to experience Thailand.. One among the many beautiful experiences in Thailand. 🙏👼

Just a small but neat museum located in Ubon. Tells the history and has some interesting relics/antiquities. It is not open everyday so plan your trip accordingly. There is a park right beside it and the city pillar is also located through the back gate. Have a great trip and a great day.

One of the best museums in Thailand. Not massive, but every exhibit was really well displayed with good descriptions in English as well as Thai.

100 baht to get in, and then you are treated to a nice small museum that provides a great overview of the province. Not everything is in English but so much of the stuff is just so nice it doesn't matter. I left here feeling very good about my visit.
