The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is one of the central places of worship in all developed democratic states, where state acts of ceremonies are organized. It is a permanent symbol of patriotism and unquestionable heroism of the state's citizens.

Under the monument on the Danube embankment in Bratislava are the remains of an unknown member of the 1st Czechoslovak Army that fought on the Duklian battlefield in the Carpathian-Duklian operation during the Second World War.

The monument's design arose from an art competition in which 24 designs from Slovakia, Bohemia, and Moravia were submitted. The work has the shape of a levitating circle symbolizing a shield falling or resting on the ground; it is complemented by the motif of eternal fire, a beam of light at night.

The ceremonial space is complemented by four flagpoles and many brass cobblestones around the memorial commemorating important military operations in which Slovak soldiers participated.

The motto is written around the monument's perimeter: "Those who fell nameless are like brothers, and that's why they all have one name: The Unknown Soldier."

Grób nieznanego żołnierza znajdujący się przy parku. Może konstrukcja dość specyficzna, ale upamiętnia żołnierzy którzy zginęli za swój kraj.

Zaujímavý pamätník, až po prečítaní sme zistili, čo to je

A seemly rubbish. There is a monumental tomb of an actual unknown Czechoslovak soldier on the Vítkov hill in Prague, who might have easily been born in the Slovak lands of the former monarchy and arguably died on behalf of the newly forming republic, which Slovaks may still consider their homeland in hindsight and this tomb alone feels dignifying and representative enough. I find it silly, to raise another memorial and even dub it a tomb (even though the term "cenotaph" would be far more proper) on behalf of the independent Slovak republic, as its foundation did not involve any military operation at all and as of now, only a handful of Slovak soldiers have been killed in action throughout its entire existence, all while fulfilling their duties on foreign missions, apparently not too critical for safety and welfare of citizens at home.
I find the design of the memorial pleasing but its placement feels very random, as it was suggested many times, the park in the government quarters with the statue of Marek Čuleň would be a place much more suitable for its tranquility, accessibility and the fact it deserves a renovation anyway; alternatively, the hilltop of Stráže above the city provides an excellent spot for a more imposing sculpture. Yet, if it was up to me, I'd prefer to wait for more heroes to celebrate...

Podporujem umenie a paci sa mi vystavovanie diel na ulici, spolocenskych priestoroch. Myslim si, ze tento kusok nabrezia kde je priestor na prechadzky zabera az priliz velke umelecke dielo. Zvlast ked nahradilo miesto s kvetmi a zelenou.
